Thanks for sharing the picture. Are you also planning to get the center pipe? Let us know if this changes the sound at all.
I don’t think I will go for the center pipe. My service guy said it would be louder in the cabin since it’s right by the engine. (I rather enjoy how quiet the cabin is for a truck.)

I think my next acquisition for the engine would be the TRD Performance intake found in the Pro.

Exhaust sounds great, and thanks for the clips. In regards to the intake I think another thread here stated the Pro intake wouldn't work on non Pro or TH models due to some tuning issues

I wonder if that is specific to people with the non-hybrid engines? I have the Hybrid - so same exact engine as the Pro & Trailhunter, maybe it will be “more” compatible. ??

@JustDSM might be able to answer that. I know he's working on tuning to make the TRD Performance Intake work on non-TRD Pro trucks.

This is correct. The Trail Hunter/TRD Pro airbox REQUIRE a custom calibration to properly scale the Mass Airflow Sensor data to the airbox. You will throw a CEL and likely put the truck in limp mode if you do not run a calibration for the TH/Pro Airbox.

We have the calibration available for the proper operation of all 'non-TH/Pro' models using this airbox.

Can anyone who installed the TRD exhaust give us an update

Any regrets or does it still sound good?
I'm not interested in changing anything about the exhaust note I just want something that looks nicer.

I changed both exhaust sections with the TRD version. It’s been over 10,000 miles and I still like the sound. If you’re not looking for noise change just do the rear section (tips). It’s minimal exhaust note change.

This may be a complicated ask.

1. A different TRD Exhaust thread showed that the "mid-pipe" for the Pro is different (part #). The mid-pipe includes the muffler and while the muffler looks the same on the outside, it's different inside. https://www.tacoma4g.com/forum/thre...er-pipe-vs-trd-center-pipe.14410/#post-180828
Swapping out just the tailpipe should have some affect on the sound because the TRD tailpipe doesn't have the resonator. The TRD "mid-pipe" with a different muffler would also likely have a different sound (but zero change in appearance. It's unclear whether TRD Pros actually have the TRD "mid-pipe" or not.

2. An early video from the Toyota engineer talked about how the Pro has a specific ANC and ESE file and that those files were available for those who upgrade to the TRD exhaust (where/how, I don't know). If you add the TRD tailpipe to your Tacoma, it may sound like a Pro on the outside but not on the inside.

Having said all that, the exhaust note (inside and out) is perfect for me. From the outside it sounds a little throatier than a stock Tacoma but very subtle. Sadly, nothing like my old V8 Tundra with TRD exhaust. Inside is probably more "augmented" than actual exhaust sound when you're accelerating quickly. During normal driving I can't even hear the exhaust, quiet and no drone.

Thank you, trying to decide whether or not to buy the TRD rear for $600 or just pay a local exhaust shop to cut the factory at the resonator, route pipe closer to the body and weld a single black tip

Thank you, I'm looking for the least amount of exhaust noise I can get hence the reason I bought the hybrid.

I really like the stock exhaust, just hate the look.

The TRD loses the resonator but just before the dual tip it has a slightly larger diameter and then there's sort of a "chamber" at the Y. Not sure if that provides a resonator-like effect that wouldn't be present if you just weld on a single tip.

I would do the rear TRD. It’ll be cleaner looking. If you’re looking for the least amount of noise I would also check out if your truck has ESE exhaust sound enhancement and turn it off if you do.

I replaced the oem muffler back, with the oem TRD twin tip muffler back purely because it looks better. The little bit of addional, non irritating,no drone, sound is a bonus.
