No. I love the truck. And I’m not super torqued up about this honestly, save for when I’m thinking about possibly getting stranded in the middle of nowhere. What would make me happy is a clear statement from Toyota explaining what the issue is and a means for me to resolve it in Houston at a dealership near my home, before I’m out in the bush with my truck that’s made to go anywhere. I am under warranty for 125k miles / 8 years but what I’d like the same confidence in the drivetrain I had with my third gen — I think Toyota could restore it with some transparency. But anyway. Moving on.
Is Toyota replacing your transmission?

No. It’s working fine (aside from the weird stuff others have mentioned).

And to be clear - it’s my daily driver and I’m not holding back. I just hate that I spent this much and am never certain about whether the transmission will explode.

Just a quick update since my last post. I’ve driven about 300 miles in the past couple days. A little deep snow and lots of freeway driving, including mountain passes in suboptimal weather. Not even a hint of an issue.

So I’m gonna assume my transmission is fine. Maybe I got some bad gas or it was a software glitch or a combination of things. Hopefully it doesn’t come back.

I just wish Toyota would be proactive about this. There has to be some way to tell if there is debris or not. From what I'm gathering it came from the Torque converters. There were a few early replacements that broke, but at the time they didn't know what was going on and didn't replace the Torque Converters, just the Transmission. From all of the Forums it seems like the issues are slowing down so we may be getting to a point where most that will fail already have. I hope so. I hate the uncertainty. Mine is fine @ 12k miles and 6 months and I've never had a rough shift.

See that’s the problem though. Failures aren’t necessarily related to hard shifts. Some trucks shift great and then randomly fail and get stuck in gear with zero prior symptoms, others like my truck shifted great for the first 500 miles and then developed all kind of weird issues, hard shifting, clunky downshifts, shudders and vibrations at low speeds, hard engagement into reverse etc etc and zero codes stored in my trucks computer and obviously no check engine light. So basically Toyota has done absolutely nothing for the people in my camp that are stuck with transmissions that clearly have an issue but there’s zero resolution for it

Should one be concerned about the AL80F transmission in the 2025's...? I'd hope Toyota has resolved the issue in current production
I am currently dealing with a transmission replacement. Bought a 25 tacoma with an al80f and it needs to be replaced at 232 miles.

Anyone having issues with a 2024 where the 4x4 won't engage and breaks every time they try to use it?

I've been to the dealership 3 times over this - all in under 8 months. It never goes into 4x4 and just flashes lights. I have two videos up on youtube I can share to show what happens but it's an absolute nightmare.

I've tried customer care and nothing is getting forward. Does toyota monitor this forum at all?

Even if Toyota did monitor this forum, their 1200+ authorized dealers are where you have to go for warranty work to be performed. All 50 states have lemon laws usually 3 strikes and the auto maker is out. This makes me wonder about your post.

What specific repair did the dealer fail to fix permanently?
Being a 2024, do or did you follow instructions to engage 4x4 periodically?
Is your problem one where binding on hard surfaces can mean a delay or issues with the engagement?
Are you honestly saying Toyota did not follow through with a customer care incident number?

While I'm sure this is very frustrating, I'm wishing you luck for the specific steps that usually get problems solved. Dealer quality can vary. It can mean you have to be organized for it. Also look for dealers that earn the "president's award". Our experience with several Toyotas has always shown them to be superior for repairs and service.

Good luck!

I agree with @Gfenza89 about the dealerships, but if your truck won't engage 4Hi it is definitely broken and unless it is out of warranty I think they pretty much have to fix that.
