Hey everyone — glad to be here.

I’m Jeremy, and I run Mabett.

Over the past few years we’ve been building aftermarket accessories mainly for the Maverick and Bronco platforms. Recently, we’ve started getting into the 4th Gen Tacoma as well.

If we’re going to do this seriously, we figured we should do it the right way — so we actually got a Tacoma to work on (imported one over), instead of relying on specs or guesswork.

Still early days, but first impressions have been pretty positive. The 4th Gen is shaping up nicely — although I’m still getting used to how big it feels compared to what I usually drive.

Our plan is simple:

We’ll be testing, prototyping, and building parts on this truck — and sharing the process along the way.

But we don’t want to build things in a vacuum.

Would really like to hear from people who actually drive these trucks every day.

So I’m curious — what are the little things that bother you about your Tacoma?

Could be anything, for example:
  • interior protection
  • storage
  • rear seat usability
  • bed setup
  • or just things that don’t work as well as they should
We’ll be around, reading everything, and happy to test ideas on our end too.

We already have a few things in motion — some products are currently in production and should be ready soon (will share more in next thread).

Join our community to get more involved:

We’ll keep posting updates here as we go.

We also set up a FB group where you can get early access to new products, prototype testing opportunities, and some group-only discounts.👇

Appreciate all the input — excited to build this together with you guys.

Welcome Jeremy. Here is my input. It seems like Mabett sells a lot of interior trim stuff. There are several other companies, even sponsors on this forum, in that space. I'm not an expert why there is such a glut of these kinds of products, it must be because that stuff actually sells. For me, it's the least likely segment to get my aftermarket dollars. As far as interior mods go, I would suggest a real grab handle for both the driver and passenger sides. This must be very difficult to design/engineer and retain safety. I'm not aware of anyone having it. For the box, providing a solution to tie items DOWN in the bed other than the hooks in the four corners. One that does not require drilling. Perhaps something that extends down from the bedrail to the floor of the box.

A soft touch “pad” for the upper interior door. The higher trims (Limited/Pro/TH) come equipped w/ this, but if you could produce a quality color-matched piece that would allow for the upper arm rest area to be like the lower arm rest my guess is it would be a popular item. Just my 2¢. Welcome to the forum.

Yes we need the grab handle on the driver side that with NO JBL speaker cut out. Everywhere else in the market has the speaker cut out.

Full, pass through grab handles for driver and front passenger that are sufficiently low profile to avoid blocking visibility or be a hazard if airbags deploy.

I have some ideas on how to explore achieving those design objectives. Am in your general neck of the woods in Ventura and am retired and a woman (atypical demographic around here).

I love the performance of my Toyota OEM bed mat on my long bed (6’2”). Saves my knees when working in the bed. It doesn’t dip inside the truck bed grooves. Its grippy surface keeps most cargo from moving. Keeps things in place while I tie it down. It has nubbers on the bottom to aid in drainage and drying. It doesn’t stink under my tonneau cover so far, after 10 months. It is fantastic for those reasons.

BUT. It weighs a crap ton and is very difficult to remove for cleaning.

Sometimes I’d like to lighten my load and leave the mat at home. Sometimes I like to get everything squeaky clean.
The perfect aftermarket mat would let me roll it up a bit more easily yet be rugged enough to save our knees.

Is anyone making an interior molle panel to mount on headliners? My truck doesn’t have rear seat headliner grab handles (they are on B pillars) where either metal molle or fabric mesh “attics” are typically installed.

The mounting would ideally be done with clips installed onto the door frame under the door seals.

I’d like an armrest extender. We had a 2016 Honda CR-V which had the center console lid on a track that we could pull to extend.

Although it would block front cupholders, a compromise would be to make it in two halves so either driver, front passenger, or both could extend to have an armrest.

How about a mount that clips to headrest posts on the front seatbacks (or flipped to front of front passenger seat). Create a few different storage pouches or boxes to hang down.

Small items: Snacks, tools, dog leash. Med kit. Charge cables.

Medium sized items: CCW safe, shoes. Water bottles. Trauma kit.

Larger items: laptop sleeve, boots, rain gear, spare clothes, gym gear kit.

Any storage can be optioned with RFID blocking material.

I’ve worked with Jeremy on some other projects. Really excited to see the products Mabett will come out with.
starting with asking what the community needs is a great first step. Good luck out there.

I would like to see a lifting system to take the RTT off my bed rack. I currently use some 2x3 wood that I lash to the rafters in my garage. Can get it on/off in about 10 mins, but I do need to walk around the truck about 5 times to do this.

Hi Greg. Appreciate you taking the time to share such a detailed perspective — this is exactly the kind of input we’re here for. That grab handle idea really stood out to us. We honestly haven’t gotten much direct feedback around that specific need before, but it makes a lot of sense — especially having a solid A-pillar mounted handle for both driver and passenger sides. From a usability standpoint, it feels like one of those things you don’t realize you need until you’ve had it. That said, packaging it into that area while working around airbags and existing structure is definitely going to be the tricky part.

I’ve just shared this idea with our product development team, and it immediately got their attention — they really see the value in it as well. We’ll keep you guys posted here if we make any progress or start exploring concepts around it.

Appreciate you sharing this — that’s a really thoughtful suggestion.

You’re right, there’s surprisingly not much out there for that upper door area, especially when it comes to getting both the color match and the soft-touch feel right. It seems simple on the surface, but doing it in a way that actually blends well with the factory interior is where it gets tricky.

Interior is definitely a space we’ve spent a lot of time on with our previous platforms, particularly around materials and fitment, so this is something we’d feel confident exploring further.

Sounds like this is definitely a more urgent need than we initially realized — really appreciate you chiming in.

That detail about having a version without the JBL speaker cutout is especially helpful. Most of what’s out there seems to follow the same design, so having a cleaner, more universal option could make a big difference. I’ll make sure this gets passed along with the rest of the feedback we’re gathering here.
