+23k miles and MPG @ 60, 70, 77 and 80 mph

Air Dam removed
Bed cover
Running 87 octain / 10% ethanol
32 PSI in factory tires.

Well over 100 steady miles @ each speed.

28.9mpg @60mph
22.7mpg @70mph
*21.5mpg @77mph
20.5mpg @80mph

*Note:
The 77mph trip was about a 400 mile trip with truck completly loaded for a beach vacation.
Everything was under bed cover or back seat with 2 passengers.

All trips were 2 passengers only.
Also mostly flat land here in south traveling Louisiana, Mississippi, Florida and Southern Arkansas.
And I baby the throttle getting to speed trying to get the best fuel mileage possible @ the speed I run.
I "Never" hit resume, until "I" babybit back up to speed.

Also:
MPG was sickening when new! 16.5 to 17mpg!
It was probably close to 15k miles before it started running these numbers consistently.
Now to change Air filter to the Toyota performance....

LTD HV here, so FT4WD also in effect. Running a tonneau cover, kept front spoiler on. Factory tires ~31psi cold.

87 vs 93 octane moves the needle about 1.5-2mpg, not enough to justify ~80c/gal more. However, I do notice that it's shifting between gears is smoother. I didn't know if you have it, but I have a definitive 'rougher' transmission feeling between 37-47mph when being easy on the accelerator. Dealership dismisses it as 'characteristic'. I've found 93 octane dampens the sensation (but doesn't eliminate it).

Absolutely agree that there's a steep fall off in mpg as the speed stays low or goes high. With the engine warm for long distance driving and on 93 octane, I'm observing:
24.5-25.5mpg if 50-60mph steady
23.5-24.0mpg if 58-65mph steady
22.7-23.8mpg if 63-70mph steady
22.3-22.7mpg if 68-75mph steady
21.5-22.5mpg if using DRCC up to 80mph
When doing city/suburban mixed driving I'm ending up around 22.3-23.3

Those highway speeds are basically the I-95 corridor between PA and SC for terrain context.

Agree that all tanks before ~2300mi absolutely sucked at 17-19mpg.

Yep, gas engine. 3 inch lift, 35s, full load out. I also in UT. Not driving flatlands.

Makes sense now, White Rim, Schaffer Canyon, Wild Horse, Eagle Canyon, all will do it. We buy our trucks for what they will perform and not for what they will not provide. I always tell people if you want good gas mileage buy a Prius or a Corolla, but do not complain if you can’t put 35s on the rims.

I also took out my weboost and now use a Starlink mini with Wi-Fi calling. It was great FaceTiming, my son back in Florida from Factory Butte and Moonscape Overlook.

How's the connectivity on that StarLink when you are off the beaten track? I don't off-road much (unless you count dirt/gravel roads) but I've been 20+ miles past cell phone reception, and I was considering a Sat phone. Starlink sounds more versatile.

My Starlink mini with a bumper around it fits perfectly between the windshield and my 14 inch display on the trail hunter on top of the dash. See attached photo it’s plugged into the 12V charger. It doesn’t need to be mounted outside the cab and the service plan is only on the weekends when I use it and I pay $10 per weekend if I’m going to be gone more than two weeks I pay the $50 over landing fee, which is monthly.

Drive mode for all these numbers?

Aero dominates above 60mph, why remove the air dam? / promotes cooler front calipers, longer pad life & air ramming underneath the vehicle for that pure hwy stuff

And I removed air dam when it was getting 17mpg @ best (new) and was scratching for anything.
Some said it helped....

I will put it back on after I monitor the effect of the Toyota performance air filter on mpg.
Them after a couple of months I will add the air dam back and see if any difference.

your 60mph range numbers are excellent, love seeing people maximize these 4 bangers for long trips. Any fuelly logs? I'm guessing your combined is well above sticker

Yep, Eco mode for the win, does more than throttle mapping. Also governs the HVAC climate controls & electrical systems thus consuming less fuel over long runs

Well not scientific and probably not all that accurate but you do you. No way to get accurate readings the way it is done unless after each and every 100 you pulled over and filled back up and did the math the correct way. The Toyota instrument is very “directional” but by no means accurate.

We've just hit 5,000 miles. Been a long time since I had a new vehicle need 20K to fully break-in. But I'm happy to hope our own mileage improves because, it's simply unimpressive right now ;).
