I had the Cobb Turn down exhaust on my truck for 24 hours. Just wanted to share the sound difference on start up. It's not the clearest example as the video/audio is just from a phone, but you can definitely hear the difference. It will obviously be the same with OEM, COBB, Sxth, NYTop, or whatever you use. 1st start is with the axle dump, second start is stock.

Quite a difference in sound! I've considered doing this, but I'm concerned about exhaust fumes. I frequently have the windows open during good weather. It seems that the exhaust has to go somewhere when it's dumped underneath the truck instead of out the tailpipe.

I had the same concerns, especially having kids in my truck, but I figure Toyota wouldn't put it stock on the TH or sell the aftermarket part if they had any chance of getting slapped with a wrongful death suit. When I had it on you could see the exhaust hit and then just disperse.

My truck came with the downturn tip...never gave it too much thought since it's a hybrid and the engine isn't running when the truck is stopped.

I skipped the exhaust dump as well, because of exhaust intrusion into the cab (especially when the rear window is open). It's a valid issue. I've also read about instances of exhaust heat scorching the rear axle.

You guys don't like the sweet smell of exhaust in your cab?

FWIW, I have no issue with the axle dump exhaust and fumes getting into the cab. No passengers have ever noticed either. My 3rd gen 4runner is a lot stinkier and that pipes out at the rear bumper.

Do this! Good clearance, sounds good, and looks good with the 3 inch exit on the resonator, and it costs 1 sawsall blade. This is very similar to the 4Runner and Land Cruiser factory setups.

I bought the NYT version on sale. Really don’t notice a big difference but the ground clearance is better and reduced weight.

There's no way Toyota would sell this to folks, let alone put it on the top trim, if there were any concerns whatsoever. Just a hunch that the Engineers and Lawyers on Toyotas payroll aren't dumb.

How do you feel about the noise after having it on for a while ? I was thinking of giving it a go again since I took it off so quickly. I wonder if a lot of the "no notice in noise" reviews are from people with noise cancelling features ? My SR5 doesn't have that.

FWIW I've had mine on for a few weeks now (OEM Trail Pipe) after having the stock exhaust on for more than 20,000 miles and I haven't noticed any change in exhaust fumes entering the cab. The noise I noticed, but I'm not bothered by it. It's not significant enough to outweigh the additional clearance you get by ditching the stock exhaust. Gotta get a Rolls Royce if a whisper quiet interior is what you're after ;)

Also for anyone wondering, you can manipulate the stock exhaust out from under the truck once it's disconnected without having to raise the truck. It was a little tricky though.
