Hey Tacoma folks!
We’re excited to announce that our brand-new hood deflector for the 4th gen Tacoma is officially live! And for Black Friday, we’re kicking things off with a limited-time 20% OFF deal.

What does a hood deflector do?
It’s designed to redirect airflow to help keep rocks, road debris, and bugs from hitting your hood and windshield. This helps reduce chips, scratches, and paint damage, while giving the front end of your truck a tougher, more finished look.

Not gonna lie, I'm intrigued. I've never seen a deflector like this. Not sure how well it would work, and whether or not it could damage the paint long term like the old car bra used to. But being rubber and molded it looks nicer and would protect from debris and be nearly indestructible on the trail unlike the old poly ones were. I'll consider it, and voted yes to the giveaway.

I would be interested in the old school type that sticks up a quarter of an inch or so to deflect rocks as well as bugs and looks like a see-through tinted plastic door visor (also called a door wind deflector.) I am not interested in the type that sticks onto the edge of the hood.

Since you asked, I lost interest in any super adhesive anything add on years ago. They always seemed to come off and cause paint issues long term. I might like the concept if it was form fitted, bolted on the lip of the hood and stood away from the body similar to what Lauren01 mentions.

Saw this in my email, pulled-up the entry on Amazon and looked at it...

...hollered upstairs to my wife "Honey, I'm buying something for the truck!" and told her what when she asked.

Purchased!

The product tapes onto the hood top and bottom, leaving a gap in between where dirt collects. This is a horrible rendition of a bug deflector. Save your money I wasted mine on one already and decided not to put it on.
This is my opinion and opinions are like a*******. Take it for what it's worth.

Looks like an innovative way to prevent rockchips for sure! Haven’t seen anything like this on the market yet.

Mine from Amazon, which is almost exact copy that I bought 9 months ago started to peel off.
These products are a rubber type compound that use 1/2 in 3m mounting tape around the edges and on mine the middle rested on the paint 🤯. I got rid of mine.
I feel mine failed due to extreme heat and cold weather.

Only interested in one that is not adhesive attached. It must bolt on from underneath, stands away from the paint, and use factory mounting holes. Think AVS Deflecta Shield or Bugflector II, made of lexan.

I really wish Toyota would make one for these trucks. I installed one on my folks’s Grand Highlander, and it’s super high quality and doesn’t touch the paint. The GH has the same seamless/flush hood to grill proximity…so I know they can be made to fit the Tacoma too

Problem with the hard plastic visor type bug deflectors is they require 3-4 points of contact on the hood to keep it stable. Every one I’ve seen installed had either paint damage or dents in those areas. Not sure if this thing is the answer though.

I see your point. Plus our hoods are aluminum. Easy to tweak. Spreading the load to more attachment points would mean more spots to booger up the paint…unless first it’s PPFed on the hood edge. Another expensive path.

There's going to be pros & cons for any attachment method, and a corresponding risk for damage to the finish regardless all else.

Having an adhesive strip fastening method removes the downside of vibrational erosion of the finish, but (if properly applied) requires a heat gun for proper removal without finish damage. Applying the adhesive strips to PPF just changes the eventual concern to the PPF lifting from the same application of heat. Secondarily, it does indeed provide a collection point for dirt and requires additional attention regarding cleaning.

Both types require careful attention in the "winter states" to prevent/mitigate damage due to ice lifting.

So in this case you can mitigate the erosive aspect of the rigid deflectors by applying a small piece (or more) of PPF (or foam, etc.) under each contact point, with the knowledge that you'll need to keep an eye on it over time to prevent finish damage from vibrational erosion. Or you can keep your flexible deflector stuck down with adhesive strips that may need to be replaced occasionally, and perform additional cleaning steps.

You pick your your path and you deal with your obstacles...I prefer adhesive because I know I can buff any finish issues that show after eventual removal.
