So I bought the Rough Country skid plate for my truck, and after wrestling with it trying to get it in without a lift, I decided that I made a bad decision. I see other plates that are aluminum, one piece, and they have two elongated bolt holes to hold the plate up while you start the rest of the bolts.

Has anyone had good luck with this style of skid plate, and if so can you link me to the one you have? I even saw somewhere that there are SR5 labeled 4runner skid plates that will bolt onto my Tacoma.

I'm open to any feedback. Thanks in advance!

I have the OEM TRD (aluminum) plate on mine. Like you said, it has the two elongated holes so that you can sit the plate on those and take out the other 4 bolts and just slide it off. Super easy to do by yourself too.

Thank you! Do I need to pick up that additional crossmember to get it to fit on my SR5?

I went online and found it on sale at Elmhurst Toyota 3-1/2 miles down the road from where I was going. Saved $86.50 off the retail price and it would have been $73 to have it shipped. So I saved that since I picked it up. Had to enter my family’s Illinois address to be able to do a local pickup on the website.
I had already added the RCI cross member on my truck and had switched out the fiber skid plate for the plastic “Off road” skid plates.

Definitely not a fan of mine. Oil changes are a task.

Agree, you will need to buy the cross member. I have 1/4" aluminum full skids underneath mine and access to everything is easy. Installing was simple due to the rear of the skid plate hangs off of the two bolts, while you put the bolts into the cross member.
To make oil changes easier I installed a fumoto valve.
Very Functional and would recommend.

+1 for the “TOYOTA”/LC skid. Super easy to install and you will require the additional crossmember being a SR5. Plenty of access at my stock height and the wide holes def made it easier. I added the OEM front recovery points while I was at it.
Now I just need it to warm up so I plug the holes on the control arms…..I finally heard the whistle everyone talks about.
