That's what I told him, but he said they bench run it for the equivalent of a break-in period, then change the oil that they deliver the truck with 🤷‍♂️
Someone also drove it around the factory, to a truck, onto the truck, off the truck then to the dealer.. and maybe to another regional dealer nearby (which is why some new vehicles have 10-15mi)... it's still new lol

The first sample came with the Tacoma new but the next two I changed were Mobil 1 0W-20 Advanced Fuel Economy.
Interesting, Toyota 0w has a lot of molybdenum, more than Mobile 1 clearly. Good stuff overall for an engine, it's better than most off the shelf oils.

@gpburdell It's my first new vehicle and I don't intend to sell as long as it suits my lifestyle. At my rate it will be 25 years before I hit 200k.
Yeah, that's the challenge - not always sure how needs might change in the future. Bought my '17 new in late 2016 and have 107k miles on it so far.

Got rear ended in April this year and started looking at 4th gens - but it ended up repaired vs totaled and I've just not pulled the trigger on a new truck. Love the new powertrain and some other stuff, but not thrilled with the some stuff, so I just keep on with my 3rd gen.

Perhaps the high levels in the first sample are coming from moly assembly lube not necessarily the oil additive pack

Seems like Mobile 1 uses a different type of Moly that is more effective in lower concentrations.

https://pqia.org/mobil-1-advanced-fuel-economy-0w-20-advanced-full-synthetic-motor-oil/

Where as Toyota TGMO is using the older style which requires higher concentrations to be effective, 700-900ppm as seen on analysis.

Ultimately, on a 3k mile interval, it really doesn't matter to be honest, I'd say even on a 5k oci it also probably doesn't really matter. Maybe 10k+ sure, then you should be looking at Redline/Amsoil etc, not sure I'd recommend that long of an interval anyways on a T24A-FTS.

Outstanding and intelligent. Many guys on here say they have had many vehicles and logged thousands of miles with no issues. I don't hear any saying how much oil is consumed between changes though. Excellent job here. This is the difference between an engine sealed "rings" and one that's not.

The oil to use is Driven DI20 do you're research. Two things, sheer stability (is the oil still in grade) wear rate additive package.

I mean yeah, but we also have port injection, I don't think there's anything wrong with DI specific oil but if it costs significantly more than a high quality synthetic and you're going to change in 5,000 miles... it might not be worth it.

The port injectors deal with intake valve deposits as long as you're using a high quality 91+ Top Tier fuel (which is probably more important than the oil you chose as long as your OCI is less than 5000 miles.

Dang, nearly $20 a quart.

Data drives all my decisions and not tribal knowledge or what someone says to do. Not to be ugly but 65k truck will be in my inventory for 300K miles or more. There is a reason why it's $20 .

I'm one of those guys. Some due to evaporation and age depending on the vehicle. Overall, nothing that was ever concerning.

What brand of oil did you use for these changes? I ask because of the Moly numbers. From what I’ve seen on new oil tests the OEM Toyota is formulated with higher Moly vs most all other oils including Mobil 1 which everyone thinks is the OEM oil (but it really isn’t)
Napa auto parts synthetic is high in moly.. made by Ashland oil/valvoline

That's how I felt when the dealer parts counter lady interrogated for buying 75w-85 GL5 for the diffs at 15,000 miles, so I get it :cwl:

Things gotta last forever, so yeah I'm doing the severe schedule.
