Recently had a set of 35x11.5r17 wildpeaks mounted.. I was quite excited to go up 2" in size.. but man these tires aren't it on a Tacoma. Way too heavy. You feel every ounce of the 68.5 pounds per corner.

I called Falken and initiated a return. Going with a set of open country AT3 in 35x12.5 which is a 9 pound saving per, though not a true 35", which is fine.

My experience has been that most Falkens are far heavier than they should be. My SL 265/70R17 years ago were like 49 lbs or something. Not even LT C load tires from other brands are that heavy and they are thicker and stronger. My Falkens also did not balance at all. I decided they weren’t for me.

I’d recommend the Toyos for sure. They have always been good to me in the LT category, I’m not thrilled with their SL line though. For 35’s they will be LT anyways so you should be good. I’ve got 34x10.50 lined up for Tuesday myself.

I previously had a set of the open country in 255/80/17 which is close to what you’re getting, way preferred those to these and would gladly give up the 2” height for the overall characteristic.

Hopefully I like the performance of their 35, I’m sure I will. This has taught me how much you feel weight in tires. This would be unbearable on stock suspension.

Besides the lift did you have to do anything else to make the 35s fit?
Hey Tchyzzy,

I added the westscott preload collar and had to do a little trimming where the lower wind guard is. I removed it after the lift and noticed there was a tab under the fabric that was catching a little on both sides.

After trimming it, I used some black-head self-tapping screws to pull the fabric forward a little. You can’t even tell it was cut.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info. I have the same suspension set up as you on order. The rear springs by Dobinson keep getting pushed back. How much extra clearance did you get by adding the lift and 35s. I’m stock on 33s and it’s not enough clearance for the kind of wheeling I do.

I love my 35” Falken.

Looks like you have the hybrid which would help a lot with moving the weight. I just got the dr kdss trakx bar correct which makes everything work quite a bit better, but I’m quite looking forward to being back in a lighter tire.

About 2.25 front and rear. It’s got a slight rack.

I love the ride and look of the 255 80 17's I have on my Tacoma. A point to consider is that is the largest tire that fits under the truck, and it's a tight fit.
I'm running Yokohama Geolandar X-AT and the truck handles beautifully.

I went with the Falken AT4s 35x12.5 17s on my Trailhunter and I love them. Perfect pairing.

Ended up returning these. Got a set of toyo open country 35x12.5r17 in C load and way happier. They actually roll instead of immediately slowing the truck down to a crawl. Definitely not as beefy for off road, but I am loving them.

Pretty much the same ass size as a 285/75 open country.

Looks great, how does it drive now, and how about the mileage?
Thx! Drives perfectly. I prefer the feel of these to 255/80 open country E loads and WAY prefer them to the falkens. I think this is a perfect tire for these trucks. Will update as it wears, but very happy with them. Dash is showing 15.2, so probably about 16.2 actual.
