I will look into this next year contingent on fitment notes, legality, Toyota factory warranty, etc. Looks to be a great upgrade either way.

Follow up question - Does anyone know if the DTE can be adjusted via OTT tune/etc?
Currently, it's not something we've solved, but I'll get it in the development que to investigate.

I pulled the trigger on the LRA tank 14 minutes after I got the email. Almost doubling my range to around 650 (or ~400 when I'm towing our TT) makes its a no brainer. I'm super excited to get it in.

Feeling dejected as a 6’ bed iForce Max driver in California.
Wife and I are discussing a trip to Boise where LRA is located, with Yellowstone afterwards.
Are you thinking to be confirmed rules us Max/6’ foot bed folks out?

Maybe. It’s possible that LRA hasn’t fit checked (physically & software) fully on all 4G trims. I’d like to call them to discuss before being an early adopter on an iffy major mod as relates to fit. Legality I’m less worried about. Catch me if you can……

The way they word it makes it seem like they think it will fit based on measurements alone, but they haven't actually tried to install one (yet) on long beds or I Force Maxes.

From the pre-order page:

Disclaimers
  • Long-bed fitment to be confirmed
  • I-Force Max to be confirmed
  • Leaf-sprug fitment to be confirmed

Upon initial inspection, the tank should fit all three platforms.

That is my take — I believe they know their business and have to go through this disclaimer process to hurry to market.
If I get to talk with them, I’ll post a synopsis of the chat.

I ordered it almost immediately after receiving the email without giving it a second thought. I’m not worried about the warranty either. They can’t just void the entire warranty unless they can prove that the aftermarket tank itself caused the failure.

There’s no way they could legitimately deny a claim for something like the driveshaft, axles, suspension, dash, infotainment screen, or headlights because none of those components are related to the fuel tank.

Now, if the fuel pump failed, that would be a different story. They could potentially have an argument that the aftermarket tank contributed to or caused the failure. Goodbye 250 mile range, hello 500+ mile trip!

just spoke with Eric at Asheville Vehicle Outfitters. He spoke with LRA this afternoon and they are working with the local Toyota dealer to check fitment on TH / force max. They feel 95% confident that it will fit.
I am not worried about the legalities from someone telling me it is not legal except if Toyota could use that as excuse to void long term warranty.

Toyota can only (reasonably) say the warranty relating to the fuel storage system is void since their parts will be replaced. I would hope the drivetrain warranty and emissions system warranty are viewed as unaffected. That said, it’s easy to envision Toyota screwing someone over. A head gasket blows and dealer says, it’s your repair bill because a big gas tank harms the pistons. Doesn’t take a psychic to foretell dealer B.S.

An extra 53 of fuel (14 gallons) weighs approximately 85lbs. You add the weight of the long range gas tank that's 90lbs = 175 lbs. from what I can find the stock tank weights 35-40 lbs empty so. More like 140 - 145lb difference. Which still isn't bad at all. 100% Worth considering if the Toyota computer could be adjusted for the fuel capacity.

Just looking at the 3rd gen one... LRA says
  • The fuel gauge will remain accurate, DTE will not. Once the E-light comes on there is 7 gallons remaining.
7 gallons which would be ball park 100 miles... so the factory DTE isn't all that important.... but would still be nice .

Now I wait to see if this will work on my Hybrid Limited
