Goodness? Show us your data to back up your claims. Is this feelings again? I have my data.
For a guy who talks so much about data, you sure don't share much of it. All you've done so far is tell us what NASCAR does and what we should do. I haven't seen anyone operating off of feelings in the last few posts.

It's also a bit comical that you talk about how great 0W-20 is and then advise us to run the version of it that costs $19 for a quart. If that's what I have to do for it to be decent, then I don't want it. I have nothing against Driven fluids and use much of them for other purposes, but I'm not spending $20 a quart on something changed as frequently as motor oil is.

At the end of the day, it really won't matter which you use. Using 0W-20 will not hurt/break your engine nor will using a slightly thicker oil. You basically will suffer a little MPG with the thicker viscosity and that is about it.

I remember "back in the day", my Grandfather would still use the "thick" oil in the rear driving axle and my Dad would say that thicker oil was not needed. Too many people think thicker is better and that would be fine if they could back it up with tests rather than feelings but I really don't see anyone proving their point of using thicker oil as being better. The manual does suggest it when operating at hotter temps though but once again, READ/FOLLOW THE DAMN MANUAL.

The Tacoma Engine only needs the oil that is stated in the Manual (no more/no less).

This thread could go on forever with "feelings" but that is all it is, feeling that thicker oil is superior.

So they’re nothing alike besides the base weight.

so what’s even the point?

I’m not arguing 5w-30 vs 0w-20, there’s data in this thread that answers that question, at least to me.

0w-20 has some benefits and it has some negatives.
Universally we seem to agree that 5k is the max we should be running 0w-20 with a turbo, I’m just gunna run my normal 3-4k interval (after break in cycles) and not feel bad about it since that’s what I’ve always done.

The nascar situation and a road car are two totally different universes. Not even comparable oils used. It’s pointless for our uses.
I apologize if I offended you, my comment was more directed at another comment about nascar oil

Okay, ill leave it at this. Driven 0w20 is ment for your car, regular John Brown. The difference is the additive package. You are paying for protection from research and data collection. When you see a brand, the brand is the additive package. There is only 2 or 3 base oils.

Thinner oils perform better in colder climates and are more thermally conductive than thicker viscosity oils.. thicker oils resist failure at high temps better than thinner viscosity oils. Between differing synthetic oil brands, different base stocks and additive packages exist. Some oils are better for an engine with a ton of timing chains and other oils are better for turbo chargers.

If you live in a warm climate I think it would be nothing but beneficial and in a cooler climate I can't see it harming anything

I wasn’t offended then or now.

I’m just a direct person in a scientific profession. I’ve learned to just say exactly what I mean as I find I’m misunderstood any other way.
