I would like to know if the manual transmission buyers have any regrets going this route.
My motivation was to keep it simple. I was hoping this was a better option for longevity.
I wanted to avoid torque converter issues, trans fluid changes, and possible overheating.
All my life I had vehicle with a manual transmission. I'm just not sure I made the right choice at my age (Mid 50's).
Would love to hear your thoughts.
Thank you

Looking to buy a 4th Gen taco soon.
No regrets with mine. 20,000 miles so far, no issues. Rev hang is a bit strong but you get used to it. I drive stop and go traffic everyday and it doesn’t bother me at all. Also getting 21 mpg avg on 33s.

Zero regrets. This is the first vehicle I plan to actually pay off and keep (hopefully forever) lol. A big part of that decision is the manual transmission.

First to second is a little wonky trying to get smooth shifts if you're trying to take off faster than a crawl, but it's a minor complaint compared to the automatics lol.

Apparently OTT fixes the rev hang issue, I plan to go this route myself, I hate the rev hang in all modern vehicles

I went with MT for the same reasons, and have zero regrets.
The truck is super easy to drive, and service, but unsure how I'd view it in 20 years at 60. I can see age playing a factor, but it's also why I went with the 360 cameras, I have a feeling I'll find them more valuable as time goes on.

If you get the tune, let me know how it goes! I’m thinking about it also, but maybe not until my warranty expires.

My apologizes but what exactly is the OTT tune please?
It's a reflash of the ECU that allows for changes to engine management parameters, and they address the "rev hang", extend the redline and match the manual to what the Auto came with at factory. Allows for freedom beyond the factory calibration for those that desire. The tradeoff is potential warranty issues, and SMOG compliance issues.

OTT is the company that develops and sells the tune, either through their network of tuners, or as a kit you can buy to DIY.

Interesting, wasn't aware they up the rev limit. That's definitely something I wouldn't want to mess with, considering the reason it's so low on the manuals was because of the crankshaft hammering they were getting.

Don't know much about the OTT tune, hopefully that could be something they could leave out of the tune if requested.

Almost 10K without regrets, I have driven nothing but manuals, and very pleased with my choice.

I personally do not think that it needs higher redline or more power. I did install AWE exhaust, which helped with some near redline issues.

Good to hear. Did they notice any crankshaft hammering at all or any complaints with the OTT tune? It's not that it wouldn't be great to get those few extra thousands RPMs, I just wouldn't want to chance it, I see redline ... A lot 😅😅

I've had all four generations of Tacomas. All were autos. That's hundreds of thousands of miles. Zero issues.

Manuals? Clutches wear out, $1,500-$2,000 if I'm not mistaken.
