I've been on this site long enough to know two things: 1) Some of you will already know this and 2) Many of you are going to be in the "it's a rip off and I ain't paying" camp. That's OK.

I recently found out that they're now back to offering just remote Connect for $8/mo. Up until recently you had to purchase it in a bundle with either music streaming or GPS which raised the price to like $15/mo. I'm a CarPlay Waze/Spotify guy so I never used the GPS but 'had' to buy it.

My particular use case is I travel a lot and so when I'm halfway down the hall at the airport, I start up my Tacoma and in the winter the car is warm and in the summer it's cool by the time I get to it. Plus, I like confirming that the doors and stuff are locked when I am somewhere else like out of state. That works for me of course it might not work for all of you.

Can you break down what you get for eight bucks? Everything but the map?
I know you figured it out, but for others that are reading this, yes, you retain pretty much everything related to checking the status of the vehicle, locking and unlocking the doors, adjusting the climate control settings, etc. Compared to what I had - which was Drive Connect - you'll lose navigation +/or streaming if that's the package you chose.

For those of you who have been paying for one of the two other packages is they'll convert you to an extended package for the same price that includes streaming and maps and they won't tell you that the cheaper $8/mo remote connect only is available!

*EDIT* Nevermind. Logged out and back in and it‘s there now.

Where do you go to sign up for only remote connect? I don’t see that option in my app? Thanks in advance.

1. For what we pay for these vehicles, there should be no ($0) fee...... however,
2. If (since) they're going to charge a fee, Toyota should (imvho) offer a "one time" LIFETIME fee for *all services* that can be transferred to new vehicles
--> $100.00 (flat fee).
Note: even sirius/xm offered (long time ago) a "lifetime" subscription for 'one set price'.

Subscription based pricing is the future that all industries want. Why would I allow you to buy something for $x one time when I can milk you $y every month for the same thing.

Unless people stop giving in to this crap (which we all know the majority of people are too stupid to see what's going on) it's only going to get worse and more pervasive.

If you've never paired your phone to the truck, or if any phone had been paired but that PIN has been forgotten, that'd be why.

There's a setup process that involves passing PINs back-and-forth between the driver's phone and the truck/Toyota. Chapter 2 of the attached could help with that.

The PINs are used to establish trust between a specific phone and the vehicle. Once setup, they are not needed again, unless something needs to be changed.

Before attempting to pair the truck to the phone, open and activate a Toyota account, either via a PC or your phone.

Log in. Log out. All you're doing at this point is ensuring you can login to Toyota. Once you've gotten that far, you can then attempt to pair the phone to the truck, via the Toyota cell phone app. The phone, truck and account will all later be associated with one another, in the background at Toyota.

I haven't studied many of the "what if" scenarios, such as if something has previously been established, but the PIN has since been forgotten. There's gotta be a way, like deleting a profile and starting over, I just haven't read-up on that.

If all else fails, stop by a dealer. You'd not be the first.

Edit,

Along those same lines, vehicles have procedures for deleting old user information, such as when the vehicle is getting ready for sale. Personal, location and multimedia information is all there for the taking. Toyota and others allow one to delete all that, returning all systems back to as-factory.
