Doubt it was a dealer attempted repair. Looks like the same stuff I saw on multiple photos posted by others.
That makes sense because the cracks were probably discovered at the factory and Toyota tried to do a quick and dirty repair that has not held up.

The airboxes cracked because the jigs used to make the crash bars were out of spec and put the airbox mounting points in the wrong place. The stress cracked the airboxes which was first found on cars that had already been sold. For those they did the right thing and replaced the broken airboxes.

Toyota corrected the bad jugs at the Guanajuato plant but they probably had a bunch at the factory which were already cracked, and they just did a bandaid repair with some sealant and crossed their fingers. But the problem was still there and over time it pulled the crack open and now there will be a lot of them dripping on people's legs.

Toyota should have done a TSB so dealers wouldn't give people the run around like you got, because this has been a know problem since 4th gens came out. But they just shipped trucks that they knew had a problem and hoped, which is another sign that Toyota quality is not what it used to be.

Usually this was a problem right off the bat not something the developed. How long and how many miles have you owned the truck? This just started?
I bought it about 4 months ago with 13k kms. I have been driving it mostly and usually wear shoes. My wife noticed it first when she was driving it with sandals on so I started paying attention. May have been happening before I purchased it.

Most likely why the person traded it in then. They’ll have to pull the entire dash board assembly out to replace it , enormous job

The dealership turned right around and sold the truck I traded in with the issue. I got a text that the part was in 5 months later so I know they definitely did not fix it before they sold it again 😬 may be the same case with your truck

Dealers don't care. They are probably hoping that the new owners never drive with sandals. lol
