Totally agree with you, man. I've been around long enough to see people recommending all kinds of products with dubious claims that were never objectively verified or that, in some cases, were proven to be non-sense.

That is interesting considering the "diesel like" sound you hear is coming from the injectors and high pressure fuel rail.
There are two kinds of snake oil. There was the 19th century folk remedy from actual Chinese water snakes where the chemistry made sense as pain relief. Then came the type that fools people.

I'm sticking with the idea that a known brand of oil that meets an engineering specification is exactly that and good.

This was long ago now, but in our fleet then we followed a few new semi tractors and light trucks life with oil analysis after break in. Synthetic type and not the brand is what was shown to be superior. Fleet was not my responsibility late in my career but the fleet people said that had not changed. They stood on getting the right spec at a good price was most important.

Guys, I am not bashing Amsoil products - they maybe a great products and alot of people swear by them. My concern is Amsoil will not state or guarantee their products meet or exceed the manufacturers specifications. If there is an oil related warrenty issue, using products that are not proven to meet the specifications would make it easy for Toyota to not accept the issue and void the warrenty claim.

I can't see Toyota taking it that far and opening up that can of worms; Amsoil isn't exactly a new, fly by night company.

Admittedly influenced by fleet and enterprise operations experience plus age I stick to a manufacturer's terms during warranty period and often beyond. Also get service performed at the dealers. It has never been any significant expense and has had times when I got coverage past warranty or the dealer on my side. The point of the fleet and work ops was that greater scale was showing more instances when it makes a difference.
