So the other night I wake up to my trunk honking in the driveway, only to look out the window and see the thief (young kid, teens) crawling out of the driver window and bolting down the street. Cops say he seemed to be a amateur. Broke the driver door window for access and left his screw driver on the seat. They also think he didn't get away with the truck because it was manual. Kids don't know how to drive stick these days I guess?

I'm really bummed about the whole thing. I'm worried I'll just get the truck back from Toyota once it has the damages repaired only to have them come back in a month or 2 and try stealing it again.

What can I do? I've got GPS tracking. I guess I'll start stacking deterrent on deterrent. Kill Switch? Steering lock? anything else?

Are all 4th gen Tacoma's push start? Even if they could drive stick how would they start the truck unless some sort of relay attack

Dang that's awful. Seems strange to attempt on a brand new vehicle that can be tracked easily with Toyota Safety Connect...

The market for parting brand new Tacomas can't be very profitable either so that makes zero sense as incentive.

Flashing LED as in something that would blind the thief in the cabin?
Any decent alarm will come with at least one LED. You need to talk to the shops around you? Even Best buy. See who knows what their talking about, An alarm Compatible with a manual trans. Has ignition kill or starter interrupt or both. If installed right and brain buried they cant steal the truck!
Not that big a deal, just not as common as a setup for a Auto trans. Depends how much you want to spend. Remote start, doors. Shock sensor, etc. Cheap alarm probably starts around a hundred plus install probably. Hopefully you can find a place that is good at what they do and not ripoff. Compustar, Viper been around a long time.

I'm wondering the same.
They just need to access the CAN system, and then with a cheap tool, they emulate a key and drive away. Saw a video where they pull back the trim next to the headlight on a rav4, plug into the harness, open the door and drive away.
