However, I can say unequivocally, OTT can flash your ECU back to a "TRUE" stock, and it will be 100% byte-for-byte original - It's untraceable.
Do you guys have an explicit warranty on this claim? It would be huge if you do and if this claim is 100% accurate then why would you not.

I am confident you know more than most techs but I have been told from various techs throughout the years from Ford, Subaru, Porsche, Toyota, Jeep (cars I have modded) that it does not matter. If they need to find out for sure (to deny a claim) they can and no tuner can put something back to be untraceable.

That’s a fair question — and to be clear, we’re not offering any sort of warranty or legal guarantee on this. The purpose of my post was simply to share accurate technical information about how this specific ECU type behaves.

The Gen4 Denso controller used in this platform does not incorporate the kinds of flash counters, write markers, or tamper flags that some other manufacturers’ ECUs do. When we perform a restore, the file written back is a verified factory image — byte-for-byte identical to the original. That’s a technical fact, not a sales pitch.

Unfortunately, there’s a lot of cross-pollination of information from other platforms — Ford, Subaru, etc. — where the ECU architecture is completely different. Those assumptions don’t apply here, and our goal is simply to set the record straight so people can make informed decisions based on how this system actually works.

If someone isn’t comfortable flashing or modifying their vehicle, that’s completely fine. We’re not here to convince anyone otherwise — just to make sure the right technical context is out there and to help prevent misinformation from being repeated as fact.

Awesome. Thanks for the clarification.

I've been spending more time on the dyno with my truck and Cobb Accesstuner Pro. While the tuning strategy varies a great deal from the Subaru world I've been a part of for 18+ years, they are very intuitive to tune, and making power gains is easy. I'll spend some more time this week and post some results. So far I have stock mapping and Cobb OTS, along with some early revisions of my custom mapping dyno plotted.

Throttle mapping, like other platforms I've tuned has proven to change the whole demeanor of the truck and retains eco, normal and sport functions, each with their own throttle tables.

Let's see where the limit is of the open deck setup šŸ˜‚

Wanna see some lifted heads and milkshakes. I'm betting 400ft lb crank and it'll pop after enough pulls.

I don't think it'll be a FA20DIT situation where the pencil thin rods fail. I think it'll be more of a Focus RS failure.

Either way, Toyota could have done a semi closed deck on these and it wouldn't have fked their margins up that much. Greedy bastards šŸ˜‚

Someone has been around some Subarus šŸ˜‚ . I've gotten really good at keeping them together even at 800-1000hp, but I broke a lot of parts and lifted a lot of heads on my own car 15+ years ago.

Turbo cars are fun but when I see people tuning these trucks, with the cost of replacement blocks, it's crazy. You can get an EJ short block for like $2500, pennies compared to new stuff.

Toyota made the bottom end pretty stout on these at least...

Like a lot of modern turbo engines, manufacturers are placing (too much imo) faith in the offset crank.

Time will tell what these will hold, but for the average owner with simple bolt ons who wants the truck with bigger tires or a camper shell to still be fun to drive, you aren't asking a lot of the powertrain. A properly tuned engine is very often safer than an OEM calibration even with more power. OEM's tend to prioritize power behind fuel economy, which, especially in a turbo vehicle means running it too lean into boost.

For sure, after my warranty I'd be up to do a safety and reliability tune, with a big IC to keep everything happy.

100% true, at least automatic guys can't lug their trucks.. šŸ˜‚

I got my 13 WRX hatch tuned recently (DMann) and it's considerably safer than the stock tune even if it does make (marginally) more power.

Stock tune on anything turbo is usually not doing the engine any favors. Maybe 20 years ago it was different but MPG rules are so stringent now.
