I just also want to clarify that I ended up on the 819s.
@elturco good to know, thanks. I'm in conversation with Dobinsons as the 817's are wildly over performing. I have 750-800lbs on the truck and I'm still sitting at 1.5" of rake and with 2.25" with 400 lbs. These results are out of spec leaving me with more rake than I'd like.

Few other observations. Somewhat unsurprising (but also likely in part tied to the overperformance of the springs) is that the front end (stock) feels really loose. And perhaps more annoyingly, i've dropped from an average of 440-480kms (70-30 hwy/city) to flirting with 400km per tank. In conversation with folks, we're attributing it to a substantial hit to aerodynamics as well as more front bob given the relative stiffness of the back end.

Is anyone else experiencing similar?

My options are to raise the front end with a spacer (band aid solution as there will be no change to ride quality and handling), or go with a suspension upgrade and 2" front lift to bring it up to just shy of level (still likely .75-1" rake). Ideally, I'd go with a little less of a front lift.

I'm looking at the Dobinsons IFS kit, but am open to options.

Thoughts? Perspectives on what to do?

Well, you really need to pay attention to your use case and specially how much weight you plant to carry around. Some have variable weights and opt to include air bags in their setup as they may go from 0 to 1000 pounds when camping with their trucks.

Those of us with a constant weight with minimal variance, opted for spring upgrades to minimize the complexities of airbags. One note is that I do use my head lamps adjustments that come on the Tacoma "adjustable headlights that can be adjusted using a dial located on the left side of the dashboard, near the aux switches. This allows the driver to raise or lower the headlight beams, which can be useful when towing or when the truck has a lift kit installed. " I hated driving at night until I found out this was on my truck... LOL> .....

I have the spacers on the front, 1 inch bottom, .5 top.. and I love the setup. I would not call it a ban aid solution. It works really well, even when rock crawling... works nicely also when off roading on dirt roads. Yeah the 817s will raise your rear no matter what, since they will act as a spacer lift. I think other coil brands may be better suited if you want a minimal lift but want to carry the extra weights. I wanted to carry the extra weight with additional lift, hence the 819s.

@elturco yeah, the Peak setup is a little different, I was more referencing small spacer kits that would raise the front end 3/4". Greenlane offroad makes a set similar to what I was suggesting.

You bet, it's a nice feature. And yes, I went down this road as I'm rolling with a constant 300lbs on the back. The 817 by specs, and accounts from others, should have been the ticket sitting in that 1.25"-1.5" rake range.

The bigger frustration's the fuel economy hit.

Im thinking of going with some Dobinsons any recommendations? I currently have a king setup with the Icon triple rate springs in the back. They rode fine with what I would call around 700lbs but the sag was crazy to me at least. I also would like to restore my truck to more of a slight rake with the back being higher a tad bit higher. I keep a rack and a rtt year round. Might be a little hard to tell from the pictures I really just didn’t think to take a lower view.

This is such a great thread. Led to me getting the Dobinsons 821s installed on my '24 DCLB OR. Just had the work done so have yet to get all my gear on -- it's crazy how much the rear sits up without any payload, even with a 2.5" lift in the front. Will have to measure, but iirc the guy at the 4x4 shop mentioned about a 5 inch increase on the fender height from stock (of course due to the tires as well.)

IMG_1102.JPG

I don't think I'll quite hit 1000 lbs for the payload, but should be close. Was originally leaning more toward 819s, but they've been on backorder for quite some time and it seems like a couple of you guys here are happy with the heavier spring. I hope it was the right choice.

I stupidly ordered a pair of 822 front springs as well (in anticipation of a steel bumper and winch), but turns out they are not compatible with my suspension kit (they should work on a stock setup). Should've called King and talked to them prior to just impulsively getting the springs.

Anyway, I'm past Dobinsons' return window by about a week so if anyone is interested in these, shoot me a message, because they're now for sale. Red, new in box 822s (C59-822R)

This picture is before settling correct ? Because springs always are above the advertised height. Aren't the dobinsons supposed to sit at 2.25" ?

Did you get 2.5" from the suspension meaning you added .5" of preload on the kings ? Or your at stock 2" with half inch with the wheels ?

I have this same exact truck with the same shocks but stock rims and wheels. I installed the Eibach 500lb and not happy with it. I loaded about 800lbs plus my 450 dirtbike and they still sagged. Planning on removing them and installing the 821s this Thursday. But your picture is giving me second thoughts lol

Here is a video of my wife driving back to camp. And they have settled a tremendous amount from when I installed them. Not happy with Eibachs. I literally did 1k miles on them and they are coming off. DM if your interested in buying them

Picture is it loaded with my 450 Husky, roof top tent and only enough gear for my self for a 1 nighter and it's sagging. When I load from me my wife and daughter for 4 days. I can only imagine it's going to be on the Timbrens lol

Oh and my front kings are at 2 1/4 in the front

if the "The Eibach 500lb rear spring for a 2024+ Toyota Tacoma is designed ' to provide a 1-inch rear lift when there is an additional 500 pounds of static weight on the vehicle......" with the 1000 lbs you are carrying it should sag.

The dobinsons have 2 options for you depending on how much lift you want. I personally would go for the 821s with the weight you are carrying. 1.25 lift is much better than 2.25. I had the 821s on my TRD OR but only with about 400 lbs of constant weight and my ass was up in the air. Took them off and got the 819s, the truck bed is now slightly higher when not loaded and the truck sits leveled when I have it fully loaded. I did add a 1.25 lift in the front.

  • C59-821V (55mm - 2.25") 440-660lb Load / (30mm - 1.25") 880-1210lb Load
  • C59-823V (55mm - 2.25") 880-1210lb Load / (30mm - 1.25") 1400-1600lb Load

Morning !

Did you have a lift on the front when you had the 821s ?

I did not but the ass was to high even if I had the lift in the front. I have to correct my self, I have a 2 inch lift in the front (not a 1.25). There is an entire conversation in the first 5 pages of this thread that goes over the selection process. You really have to look at how much constant weight you plan to carry. If the variance between constant weight and what you add for your trips is too great than maybe air bags willl be required so you are not driving around like a stink bug. but based on what you have stated it looks like the best option are the 821s. If you select the 819s, you will have them fully compressed. Yes, you will have a 1.25 inch lift in the back but you would have used all your travel putting all that stress on the body.

Can you post a picture of what your truck looked like with out load with the 2inch in front and 821s?
