Call me an old fart and a boomer, but I grew up with muscle cars, and these just sound ridiculous. Kinda like when we put a megaphone on our mini-bikes.
Well that is ironic. I would guess many of the "old farts" back in the 70's didn't much like the sound back then either but yet you were okay with it as a much younger man?

My, how History tends to repeat itself....................

Btw, I am in that "Boomer" Camp as well. I have always thought to each their own and Live and Let Die. Let the "kids" be kids. (y)

I’m very interested in installing a AWE exhaust in my 2025 TRD Off-road Hybrid. Our trucks are a completely silent and I enjoy some sound feedback while driving as it adds to the pleasures on the road. With that said I’m very reluctant on aftermarket exhaust because in the past I’ve experienced horrible cabin drone at highway speeds. I was even considering to visit AWE headquarters/ shop in PA ( I’m in NJ and about 50 min drive away ) to see if I can sample the exhaust notes while driving.

Everyone with the AWE exhaust can you please chime in about the cabin drone? Home it is non existent. Thanks.

I got the SXTH axel dump for clearance, and to get rid of the behemoth resonator and unglued ass tailpipe, bonus was it gave the exhaust a nice slightly deeper tone.

I'll be the first to say, an i4 exhaust deserves nothing more than to stay stock. From cars to midsized, it all sound the same. Drone, mid-toned, horrible. That said, we're entering a whole new world of EPA regulations and "how much power can we fit into an eco engine to pass EPA standards", the days of those v6 cat back and straight pipe days are finishing..

Just listen to those pops at redline, not too often you get that from an i4 Cat Back. Hate it or love it, it exists, and I see why.

That said, there's a couple I've heard over the last couple weeks while trying to figure out how to waste my overtime pay that have caught my eye, just slightly.

Lets start a megathread. If you've got an exhaust (cat back, header back, straight pipe, resonator back, doesn't matter), lets hear it. It's all subjective, some will hate, some will love, others will think nothing of. This thread is a no judgment zone, and I know this community can respect that, Add your sound clips.

Bonus Points For:
  • Brand, model name.
  • Cold Start
  • Warm Start
  • Take Off
  • Fly-By
  • Normal City Driving
  • Manual (Can't stress this enough, I want to hear someone's manual setup)

I've been looking at a couple cat backs myself but I want the best bang for my buck. Was initially going to just buy the axel dump but I personally find it just sounds like an exhaust leak without the resonator and no aftermarket, let's see what you got. Surely someone with a manual got something at this point.

Side note, there's a lot of negativity around exhaust modifying an i4, seen lots on this forum with the Tacoma. To those folks, just let them do their thing, this isn't your thread. Don't yuck someone's yum, unless you pay for that yum
As a fellow 6MT owner, I agree. I get that most drive automatics so that is what manufactures are going to show in their demo videos, but I know that our 6MTs are going to sound way different with a different gear ratio, the shifts in between, RPM drops between upshifts and rev match on downshifts... and so on. I was interested in the AWE but I wonder how it sounds with a manual as well.

Every thread gets away from the OP’s context. Just move on there’s still good info here and certainly more to come.

That's a fact. The old farts back then got all bent outta shape when their windows rattled.

Also curious about cabin drone. Especially in the 6MT where it sits at a crisp 3k RPM highway speeds lol.

Although I've heard apparently AWE prides themselves on not having drone, and many YouTubers have stated there's virtually no cabin drone.
