Pic on their website shows it hanging below the frame, I don't know how a skid plate would fit? For that reason alone its a no-go for me.

It will suck if folks have to remove or cut part of a skid plate. My TH doesn’t have anything over its tank.

I don't believe it said that. I thought it said it used factory strap mounting locations, but not the factory straps.

Love the idea of a larger tank. But a few notes from LRA’s website regarding this tank concern me:
1. Loss of 1/2” ground clearance compared to factory tank
2. No skid plate required
3. Constructed from durable 2mm aluminized steel

Trying to wrap my head around why a tank hanging 1/2” lower, with a wall only 2mm thick, doesn’t require a skid plate……

They seem to be indirectly indicating that the tank is sturdy enough not to need an additional layer.

Yeah, that is what I thought too. That is quite a claim for an aluminum fuel tank that to me seems to be vulnerable. I assume there will be more information coming as the delivery date gets closer.

Not that I believe everything online, or Wikipedia, but based on what LRA states, it is still a steel tank, not an aluminum one. That would be why it doesn't outright requre a skid plate. That being said, anyone with proper fabrication skills and tools would be able to build their own skid plates if they really wanted to. I'd be more interested in knowing how much of the 2mm thickness is steel, and how think the aluminum coating is.

When you add the weight of the truck and some nasty rocks .070" isn't very much at all. What makes it worse is how far it hangs below the frame, looks just like a skid plate except its full of gas.

If they say its strong enough then you should be able to stick a badlands jack underneath and use it as a jacking point.
