Hi everybody,

I was wondering if the majority get some PPF or not.

Is it necessary and if yes, what parts do you add some PPF?

I was going to only do the front parts of the bed where you get a lot of rock chip. It I noticed some scratches on my bumper today…

Thanks

Just about the first thing I did was PPF the front of the rear fenders and then the forward-facing metal on the front. 3M rolls from Amazon.

Depends on what you're using your truck for (off-roading or daily drive).
For me, since I don't typically hit sand dunes or off-road much, I went with the most basic PPF package...the Partial Front Coverage (has a 10yr warranty) which covers the entire front bumper, hood and mirror caps. The rest of the truck was ceramic coated (which has a 5yr warranty).

I was told that if you do a lot of off-roading, the Full Front or Full Car Coverage is recommended since it protects your truck from rocks, branches, etc.

I'm definitely planing to do the front of the bed up higher than the stock PPF. Do folks remove the OEM on the lower area of the front of the bed or just go over it?

Yes, I had my truck in my installers shop the day after I bought it. I always do full front coverage including side mirrors and front lights. It definitely eliminates the rock chips.

And do you do the front of the roof?

I will do the front number, part of the hood and fender, side mirror, door cup and door edge, front facade of the bed, but I am not sure for the front part of the roof of this is useful.
Also how long it last and how does it ages? Do you have to remove them after a couple of year?

Mine has a 10 year warranty. No, you never remove it unless you want something different. I treat mine with regular car washing and wax just like you would with the paint on your car. I’ve never had yellowing since the shop I use only applies the best 3M product. Just make sure you use a quality installer that uses a quality product.

Good quality PPF last a long time and should come with a warranty as @Mtnbikes said, You should only need to replace it in any high chip areas of your truck. Then it can just be peeled off and reapplied and you are good to go.

A friend without PPF on their roof has several chips there after just one year and I have some small tears in the PPF on my roof. That was surprise because of how tall my truck is, but rocks will find a way. I even have a scratch on the glass of my moon roof.

I did the whole truck. Expensive but I’m running tight trails and if you look at this paint wrong, it gets scratched.

I ran a trail this last weekend that had some painful screeching as branches/limbs ran down the side of the truck. Washed it the following day to see if there was any damage. None whatsoever where the PPF was installed. The black fender flares suffered some minor scratches but that’s it.

Now a firm believer in PPF, but certainly dependent on what you intend to do with the truck.
