Thank you. I've already Eye F$$$ their products. I'm just waiting to do everything at once. It hurts less like that. 😂
I just had Pacific Upfitters, in Troutdale, Oregon. install a Backwoods Adventure, full boulevard bumper along with a 12k, warn evo winch, and full underbelly skids from RCI. Lastly a set of eight Diode Dynamics 🪨 rock lights.
That install hurt a little, lol, but the nice thing about pain, it goes away. And now I'm ready for some more Toyota growing pains.
Here's a a couple pics in my build so far.

Any update on this stage 3 tune development?
Sir. Its bad enough my transmission blew up. Now you want my engine to blow up too? Sigh. Take my money.
Yes please, along with a new intercooler and tranny cooler..
Turbo is ready to go!

https://www.turbokits.com/2024-toyota-tacoma-2-4t-tk500-stage-3-hybrid-turbo-upgrade.html

We do have a Stage 3 calibration available. More to follow on the details of that, but we've put this turbo through the wringer for the last few months and are very happy with it's response and airflow potential.

Simply bolting the turbo in, we've observed up to 40 g/sec of additional airflow with no change in boost pressure.

You're definitely gonna need that extra cooling. Looks like you only left a 6" gap to feed air through that grille.

Beautiful rig though, I'm eyeing that same bumper. It's half aluminum and half steel correct? Seems to have the most beef per pound and I'm in deer country.

For us folks that have to deal with CARB. Will the turbo allow a stock tune to pass both the sniffer and them looking for an unmodified factory tune? I don’t want have to swap a turbo back and forth just to SMOG.

TIA
The vehicles “self test” since the late nineties. The risk is if the software is not OEM and also not CARB certified. If the software is noticed during a smog test, it will be a problem with the California Air Resources Board.
also, if a smog tech notices an aftermarket air cleaner setup, or other aftermarket upgrades in the engine compartment, that tech may also start looking at the turbo as well.. if the turbo looks after market… which it uses the same OEM housing/internal upgrade- then the smog tech won’t really notice the turbo modification in my opinion

Does the increased impeller diameter effect lower rpm boost? As in, how quickly it begins to function?
Also any California Air Resources Board E.O. Certs planned in the future?

Circling back to this, this turbo could be run with the factory tune (we've tested this), and while not at all optimized, it's possible.

There is a very small increase in lag with the larger wheels (both compressor and turbine), but it’s subtle enough that most drivers won’t notice it unless they’re specifically trying to evaluate it. In normal or casual driving, the response is effectively indistinguishable from the OE turbo.

Overall responsiveness was a key requirement for this project. When we partnered with TurboKits.com on development, I made it clear that maintaining near-stock transient response was non-negotiable for this particular configuration. TurboKits.com is fully capable of producing more aggressive/higher output, higher-lag combinations, but this setup was intentionally designed to suit the majority of owners who want a meaningful step up in performance without sacrificing drivability.

Regarding CARB EO compliance, that would ultimately be a question for TurboKits.com, as this is their product. That said, the unit uses the factory OE housings, so it remains visually identical to the stock turbocharger.

what aftermarket parts is all required for the stage 3 tune? i can’t imagine it’s just the upgraded turbo. Intercooler, downpipe, exhaust?

Any dyno results with the stage 3 tune? And what’s the costs for someone that already has the DIY stage 1 tune?

these trucks are going to fail CA smog if your grille shutters are deleted and throwing a CEL

absolutely zero chance of passing smog with an aftermarket turbo

Original turbo + aftermarket intercooler (and not tuned) = pass smog

Aftermarket intercooler and turbo = fail

and if you're tuned you'll fail immediately anyways

Intakes always need carb eo, charge pipes don't, turbo inlets don't

CARB says "hoses" will pass but if the tech sees a silicone hose with an aftermarket logo on it you're getting failed lol which is probably why COBB went out of their way to get EOs on their turbo inlets and intercooler couplers and charge pipes
