Dobinsons C59-820 Front Spring Review
Now that I’ve logged about 500 miles on the Dobinsons C59-820 front springs (with 2,000 total miles on the truck), I feel I’ve had enough seat time to offer a solid review. Truck is a stock weight 2024 Trailhunter.
Bottom line: I wish I had gone with strut spacers instead.
I chose the C59-820 specifically because they’re supposed to be softer than the C59-822, but they still feel noticeably firmer than stock, not ideal for my preferences. Additionally, I’m now experiencing front suspension top-out more easily than I’d like, which has me second-guessing the decision.
Looking back, I probably would’ve been happier with a quality strut spacer setup paired with extended bump stops. That might’ve delivered the front lift I wanted without the added stiffness or topping-out issue.
Also, in some photos the truck appears completely level but some others it seems to be ever so slightly taller up front. I'm not bothered by that. I removed the ARB Chase rack and intend to remove the spare during daily driving as well. Hopefully that’ll raise the back a tiny bit.
If your goal is improved on-road handling and you don’t do much (or any) high-speed off-roading, these might be a good match. For my use case, I’ll likely keep them on until the Bilstein 8100 external bypass series becomes available.
Next mod, wheels and tires to eliminate the “missed leg day” look.
