I was having a very annoying rattle above about 30 mph coming from the front and at times both sides, sometimes alternating sides! It started about 2-3 months ago at about 15,000 miles. I tore through damn near the entire front end trying to find it! Ended up being the engine splash guards in the wheel wells! I tapped them with my finger and they made the annoying rattle. I’m assuming the wind above 30 mph must have been causing them to start flopping and making the noise? The fix was simple, just remove them and put 2 layers of electrical tape over the holes that they attach to, then cut an X in the hole so the push pins can slip in to make a snug fit. There are 2 on each side, wasn’t certain which ones were the problem so I completely removed them and taped every hole.

Thank you for this. I occasionally hear a rattle somewhere in the front above 45mph and always was attributing to engine “clatter” but it kind of is annoying and so I will check this to see!

Pretty easy to check, just tap on them.

Thanks for the tip! I think I may have the same issue. Mine is flopping quite a bit but wasn’t sure if that was the cause for my rattle. Mine is mild and only comes on at speed above 30 mph. It sounds like it comes from the a-pillar. I will give this a shot. Just one question, how do you remove the clips? I see a slot in the middle. Do you remove by inserting a small flat head screw driver? Thanks!

Trim removal tool, will push the sides in then pop it out, here’s one I broke, but gives you the idea.

Yeah mine sounded like it was from the pillar or speaker area at times also. Glad it’s gone! Hopefully yours is the same problem?

Easiest way to remove them is with small needle nose pliers. They have two small metal tabs in the slot. Squeezing them together causes them to nearly fall out and you can pull it out with the slightest tug. They are loose!!

@MT-Taco you were so right on how loose they were. And only on the driver side. The one on the passenger side was attached pretty snug!

I used a foam double sided tape to add some thickness and also to hold them more rigid. Was easy to cut a small round piece between the cover and the metal bracket they were pinned into. Hoping this is the issue!!

Thanks for the tip!!!!

Only around town. Not on the highway which was where I always noticed it the worst.

I think this fixed it. Had a chance to get 45 mins of highway driving in across the valley last night. Didn’t hear any extra rattles or what I thought was injector clatter. I’ll keep monitoring but this appears to be a great catch and fix!

thanks @MT-Taco!!
