In the hybrids the AC compressor is powered by an electric motor, so the AC works the same with the ICE on or off. If it can't heat maybe it restarts the ICE, I'm not sure.

That's correct. If you're stopped / parked with heat on in cooler temperatures, it will restart the ICE as needed to keep coolant temperatures up. Shuts off when the temps reach the requirement again.

If you select Sport mode in the mode selector that would probable keep the engine running at all times too, but you may have to select it every time you start it again.
We have a 2017 Rav 4 hybrid and this 2024 Taco hybrid. Both will shut off the engine when it thinks its the right time. If the water temp drops to a certain limit the engine will start up again. I would assume the same with hot temperatures and AC on.

Thank you everyone for the input. Only thing that works to keep ice engine on.
1) put it in tow mode, this will deactive some sensors or
2) put the gear shifter to the left in sport mode and move the gears to 8.

When I drive in stop/go traffic for 30 minutes, I use option 2. I can't beleive stopping and starting the engine 20 times is good, allot wear and tear.

When using adaptive cruise, I do not notice the engine shutting off. If it is doing it when I’m sitting still I have not noticed. I had the fun of 1 1/2 hours of freeway traffic day before yesterday.

Countless other threads are dedicated to debunking the misperception that S/S impact hasn't already been accounted for by the engineering team. Feel free to search them up or read the studies showing you've been stressing over something for no real reason.

As for the sound that's personal. On the hybrid you barely hear it, even if you have audio systems off. I'd be more concerned with the driver near me staring at their phone and thinking that they fit in my braking distance so let's just cut over... Than I would on S/S acoustics.

I hate S/S on a pure ICE because of the delay in getting underway again, because of the net positive value it provides. And in ICE only I look to disable it but that's bc of the takeoff delay no other reason.on any hybrid, this is a moot point and one has nothing but the benefits of the system and therefore I am an advocate of what the science and studies prove to be a good thing.
