I am seeing a pattern here:

Trailhunter owners that are explaining why they like their truck.

And SR5 or OR people that are complaining how crappy the club is from outside, behind the red rope.

lol, jk

I love my Trailhunter, could I have avoided the extra cost by building up a different trim, probably, kinda. Still replacing a lot of the stuff on the Trailhunter with aftermarket, but I’ll take the upper echelon badge.

This was my first truck, I came from wide body BMW M world where every 2 years I was used to 138k+ sticker prices. So the 67k felt like a relief.
Yep! This is my first Taco. I've came from an SR5 4Runner it was cool to mod myself but the integration between some things like aftermarket heated seats weren't as seamless as OEM. I love my TrailHunter and I love that the more luxury features that people pay to mod are already installed.

I recently bought my 2025 in late January. It hit dealer sometime around September 2025. shortbed with minimal addons (tailgate badge, ppf, and door edge protectors.) Total addons was like 500 bucks. It was priced 6.7k below sticker bringing it to somewhere at around 59K. I don't think i was going to get it lower than that.

The trailhunter trim is also exempt from Toyota special incentives on financing and leasing, not sure why you would want to lease one, but regardless, a TRD Off Road premium had 2.99% vs the 5% i had to get from my bank. If they had the offroad premium hybrid, i probably would have gotten that. I really just wanted the cameras and upgarded interior, but rockbottom pricing i could find on an off road premium hybrid was like 54-55k. I figured 4k was worth the upgraded suspension, compressor, skids, and rockrails.

All this to say, I kind of upsold myself because the feature set i wanted required the premium trim, and from there it was hybrid or not. And I wanted the hybrid because of the upgraded power invertor as well. Except it turns out a lot of people want those features so it was hard to get, except they had a trailhunter for 4k more and i said fuck it. Let's have a proper midlife crisis, sign me up for an MMA gym, where's some drywall to punch?
That was kind of my thought process. YOLO and it’s only money. I can make more if I need to. Early retirement gift to myself plus our Subaru struggles with towing wrt its suspension. We camp and like having power inverter, built-in compressor, a 6-ft. bed, and the creature comforts.

I was in the 5 foot bed range mostly because I was going to daily it as well and getting around downtown on a 6 foot bed sounded daunting, I'm already struggling to park it where i live now. If I was out in the suburbs, I probably wouldn't care.

But yea, I saw someone with a trailhunter on youtube plugging in an air fryer and cooking a frozen pizza and I thought, "yea, I want that." Got camping stoves and all, but the idea of plugging in a whole godamned air fryer into my truck? fuck yea.

I think the trailhunter is rad. But I am obviously in a different tax bracket than you 😂 so building out my SR5 was was partially an affordability thing for me.

All Tacomas are cool Tacomas though!

...The Trailhunter is just not very visually appealing. The Snorkel is noisy and ridiculous looking cruising through the Walmart parking lot and the bed rack thing is pretty polarizing and dysfunctional as well. The Bronze wheels...well you have to really like bronze.
The Pro looks much better....
Your note made me laugh. Very subjective. My view is polar opposite:)

IMO, it’s fugly. The number of “roll bars” I see for sale on OfferUp, marketplace, and even the forums are telling. I think the wheels are ugly. Plus, it’s probably priced high.
I bought mine knowing the sport bar was sacrificial. As soon as you put a bed rack or cap on it, which many are likely to do, it's a throw-away. I'll be selling mine come spring once the cap's ready for install.

Cannot be too terrible--definitely subjective like anything else--given I've seen other trim trucks in my area sporting a sport bar. Not sure how many are trying to inexpensively impersonate a TH.

LMAO, I have a $90 moderately powered electric burner from IKEA that works well with the inverter. Before the TH, we used it with a Jackery 1500. For comps, using the burned for 40 minutes used up 35% of the Jackery juice. Great when there’s a burn ban even on propane out in California.

I put a Mountain Hatch food grade tailgate cover to provide more cooking space whether or not we have our teardrop camper trailer with us.

We are planning to go to Carrizo Plains this weekend. Will bring the electric cook gear and propane stuff. Nice to have options.

Keep working & stashing some of the dollars. Your day for a fancier ride will come. Drove all cheapies til age 59 when I got the TH.

🙌 Good advice.

I'm never going get rich doing what I do and I'm good with that! I'll probably still be driving an SR5 when I retire at 53 and I'm cool with that too haha

Another point to consider is that vehicles that are displayed on the showroom floor are specially prepared and as such are not readily sold by the dealer. I was on a tour of the Ford plant outside Detroit and witnessed vehicles with signs in the windows designating them as showroom vehicles...they got special treatment and pricing.
Thanks but this one sat outside for 5 months before they moved it in. MSRP of $66,500.

Any trim you get is basically an SR with more and more crap bolted to it.

Snorkels are rated for dust only. If you're submurging you're truck in water you're airbox is going to be the least of your worries in the long run? FFT
