So I figured out how to turn off the power tailgate on my info screen and when I do it seems I can manually open the tailgate .. but when I try to close it, I’m pushing against the motor. And if I let go it stays frozen in mid air. This seems off. I thought it would behave as a normal tailgate with the power turned off. What’s going on?

I don't have an answer for this, but I am hoping people make kits to delete the power part of the tailgate, not something I'm at all interested in

I think you need a different truck. Maybe something from the 60's.

Did you try just unplugging it?
Instructions for disconnecting the wires are in your owner's manual, since it's a required step for removing the tailgate entirely when needed.

Even when you unplug it, you will still feel the motor.

Mine is starting to glitch / get stuck from time to time when opening … will be on my warranty items next oil change
I recently added a seal to my tailgate to keep dust out (I have tonneau cover). Compressing the seal when you closed the tailgate (with power) caused the tailgate to stop about an inch short of latching. After sitting closed overnight the seals stayed compressed enough that the power close functioned properly. The sensors are that sensitive. Dirt or debris may be accumulating somewhere causing enough resistance to make the power function stop for "safety" reasons.
