87 Top Tier unless I am towing heavy or know I will be in boost for extended periods of time, in which case I use 91 top tier to protect against LSPI and detonation. For normal daily driving anything above 87 is a waste of money. Just make sure to run Top Tier when you can to keep all 8 injectors clean.

93 octane was close to $6.50 a gallon in Michigan at my shell station the other day. Drove a WRX for 15 years that used this. 27k on my SR and only run 87 in it. If the price comes down, maybe I’ll splurge on a tank and see if I can tell the difference….

It says 87 on the gas cap so that’s what I use. If I get it tuned I’ll use 91.

I use 93 just as a little safety buffer with it being forced induction. There might be a performance gain, some dyno tests suggest there is. I don't know that for any fact. But for the price difference at Costco, it makes me feel better.

What's the factory manual says about our trucks. Can't beat a trained mechanical engineer.

Even with all the sensors "listening" for trouble, if I can mitigate even further the possibility of LSPI with a higher octane, then I'm running it.

Solution: Don't sustain low RPM/high boost conditions. If you need power, drop a gear or two.

Should you be panicking? Probably not. If your engine is still running don't worry about it. If its an automatic trans, it probably downshifts before creating optimal LSPI conditions.

LSPI was an early Turbo's cars problem not so much ours.

Just my .02 here, but we are running modern engines, with an ECU controlling every facet of that. Having had many cars that were tuned, you manage your parameters based in large part on what you're running for fuel. That's why lots of folks run multiple maps.

TBH, this isn't a sports car, where I'm trying to eek out performance. I bought it because it's supposed to last a long long time, so I'm perfectly happy running the conservative factory map that's set to the cheapest gas. If it's mapped for 87, there's no gains running higher octane to prevent detonation etc since it's never advancing the timing that far. Sure it's a turbo, but all factory, so they just take that into account. You could in theory try to teach it by resetting your ECU and only running that fuel for a while, but it's still only going to go so far till it hits the factory limit. To push it outside that range, for either performance or fuel economy, you'll have to get it fully tuned, and adjust accordingly to what you want to run all the time. The only thing you can really do to be nice to it is avoid the ethanol, but it really doesn't matter because that, again, is what it's tuned for.

Maybe I’m an odd one here and just wasting money, but I run 89 octane usually, with a little marvel mystery oil added in. I’ve never noticed a huge difference between 87 and 91, but I swear it’s there. It seems to like high octane a little better than regular.
