Any Build Regrets On Your Tacoma?

I'll start off by saying this is not a hate post.

I was just curious if anyone has jumped into some part of a build then immediately (or not so immediately) regretted it or wished they went a different route. For me, I think mine is the Bakflip MX4. I will say it's a pretty good tonneau cover but knowing how I use the truck, I think I would either prefer a decked system or maybe even a retractable tonneau cover.

That's my first "regret". What kinds of things does everyone else have that they wish they would have gone a different route? Maybe we can get a list of things so other people take a second to consider the add-ons to their trucks.

I got the LOMAX Stance Tonneau Cover right when I got my truck. It scratched the hell out of it. Sent it back immediately.

For all the hate about the 4th gen I really have enjoyed it so I've been curious about what add-ons people like and don't like. Hoping this thread gets off the ground with lots of posts!

No real regrets but I have the OEM soft bed cover which works fine but I've already ordered to Kuat Ibex rack system with full molle panels so I'll now have to sell the OEM cover.

I also have the OEM TRD Aluminum Side Steps which I like very much, but knowing what I know now, I might have opted for frame mounted rock sliders because they offer real protection and can still act as a step to get into the truck.

No memory seat position, folding mirrors would have been nice too. Overall I really do love the truck but, I would have been just as happy with a Canyon.

Not necessarily a regret. I got the RCI steel skid plate package....a lot of money and a lot of weight. Sort of wish I had gone with aluminum, but then I found myself on a rocky mountain road and bashed up the steel skid plates pretty good. They're still in their proper form...if I had gone with aluminum they would've been deformed for sure.

Spacer lift unfortunately. Wish I just waited for Bilstein 6112/5100, or went with the Eibach pro truck.

Leveling kit then timbren springs. The Timbren springs don't even make contact with the axle until the back end has already sagged an inch. The leveling kit and the Timbrens are not compatible. Do one or the other. I'm taking the timbrens out and going with the an air bag suspension this weekend.

Have to agree with you on this. Not crazy about the MX4, it’s OK, but I think there are better options. Also went with a friend who does window tint. He does outstanding work but wish I went with a better tint product. Will probably change this in the near future, only $100 invested and just not say anything to my friend. It’s on me, I did not realize the quality differences in window tints.

I've had pretty great luck with my build so far. I'm sure that'll run out in due time because I'm always flying by the seat of my pants with everything I do to the truck ? .

If I could do two things over again, I wouldn't have cheaped out on my running boards or my Pro-style grille. Went with some $300 Rough Country boards and while they get the job done, the welds started to rust almost immediately. Feels like I'm hitting them once a week with Salt's Gone to get rid of it.

I got the Aspire Pro-style grille, and wish I'd have waited a little for something a little less chinsy. The look is great, but the included light bar is worthless and I'm starting to see other Pro-style grilles out there that just have a more solid look than mine does.

I wished, I had passed on the PPF installed at the dealership. I paid for the front bumper, hood, side mirrors, door handle cups and lower rear fenders. The problem is that in the front, the PPF has a gap of about half inch between the bumper and the grill, unfortunately there is nothing I can do about that, unless I remove the PPF and re do it, fortunately, I have not seen any damage yet, however on the rear fenders the PPF does not go high enough to cover the paint for rock chips. I took a long road trip and afterwards the rear fender paint was pitted almost as high as the fuel door. The problem is that the rear fenders of the Gen 4 Tacoma flare out, which I love by the way, but the design makes it more susceptible to rock chips. I had to remove the pieces of PPF installed on both rear fenders, did some minor paint correction and professionally installed PPF on the whole rear fenders. Now it will definitely, be protected.

Not a fan of the power tailgate, just think it will not stand the test of time. Plus, seems to have issues in the winter with the ice and snow. However, it is kind of cool.

Wish I got the black fabric interior instead of boulder. Easier to keep clean?
Also should have got the integrated brake controller seeing how it's basically impossible to wire in after the fact.
