Stopped by my local toyo dealer this afternoon and this is what I found out.
Salesmen was clueless, first service guy I spoke to was clueless, see a trend here, but the second guy I spoke to was sharp and understood what I was asking.
So we went and spoke to, another sharp. service lady and she compared my VIN # to a Trailhunter model Vin# with the SDM option and looked to see the parts that were different.

Long story short, frikken PB switch only was $149, main harness swap was $2.900 and this is parts only. Still need a new TCU and additional wiring PLUS the actual device under the vehicle so I am definitely crossing this mod off my list.

To any of you guys that DO have this option please tell me it doesn't make a hill of beans off road, even if it does.
Thanks

It’s significantly better off road, more flex and far better ride! With it disconnected you don’t bounce left to right near as much when it’s bumpy. It works in 2H, 4H, and 4L. The bad… it automatically reconnects at 18MPH. $7000 NO! $1200 YES! The SDM was non negotiable when I was looking. You might get lucky and find totaled pickup and salvage the parts cheap? Best way would probably be to find quick detachable end links, or just remove the front sway bar completely? That’s what I did with my gen 2 Tundra.

Either way if you don’t off road much don’t worry about it.

Odds are the parts are that expensive because Toyota knows that typically the only people who are buying them are insurance companies after accidents. Also, it's possible there aren't enough if them so they keep the prices high to prevent a shortage for themselves therefore they only want to sell to said insurance companies.

Wait for some bozos to crash their swaybar disconnect equipped trucks and then buy the parts on ebay for 1/3 of the dealer price.

Toyota isn't expecting people to buy these parts, only insurance companies really.

Nobody was pricing out STi transmission swaps for WRXs when the models were new. Nobody who did the swap bought those parts new, always used from a salvaged or part out car. Will probably be the case for swaybar disconnect as well.

I’m over it…
I’ll go with the manual link kit from Apex if I really can’t live without it.
Never had it on my other trucks. So I guess I didn’t know what I was missing.

Look what I just found in my own backyard.
Toyota of Escondido, about 20mi away from me has on the inventory list a 2026 Off-road Bronze Oxide WITH a SDM for $57,893 msrp.
Granted this has a higher option level than mine, about 10k.
But I might of haggled with them just to get that feature on the same year, color, bedlenght truck I wanted.
Not looking around anymore online………. Maybe.

Ideally you’ll find a wreck Tacoma, get the SDM cheap, just get the switch, skip the harness and computer, and wire it so you have full control of when you want it connected. I’d like to find a way to bypass the computer so it stays disconnected above 18 mph.

Very happy i was able to get the SBD, in my TRD Offroad i max….like others have said it does make a difference and after using it several times, and i f i didnt have i wouldnt play around with aftermarket bullshit…on a 60,000 truck…? Or whatever your price was, i would go to dealer and trade up for the truck i want, i dont care what anybody says you start playing with aftermarket things like that, to save a dollar you will have zero in the end , just trade up…whatever you add or do theres no warrenty….and if you go to sell or trade , the dealer may give you 500 value..at most

So somebody talk me down here, please.
I called the dealer about the truck I saw on their inventory and was told that it wasn't on site but would be on March 02 of this year. I imagine it is still in the build phase I'm guessing.

My truck was listed at $44,051 base price.
Optional equipment;
14" display upgrade $845
F/R recovery hooks $605
Floor mats $199
Tailgate insert $ 89
Black badge overlay $160
Cast Alum running boards $1,199
Mudguards $165
Door edge guards $165
-------
$3,427

Bringing the total to $47,442
Delivery blah, blah $ 1,595

Total price of $49,037

I paid $44,700 out the door plus tax, reg etc.

This new truck is listed for $56,529 with these options.

Mudguards $165
120v/400w Power Inverter $280
Floor mats $199
Display screen protector $105
Stabilizer disc mech $1,230
TRD offroad Prem Pkg. $8,940
---------
Total option cost $10,919

So realistically how much of a hit would I be taking to trade mine in and pay additional cash for the difference?

Could I get maybe 45k or so for mine on a trade in?
Maybe I get more on a private sale but not many of the 26's out there for comparisons, plus the timing etc.

I paid $44,700 for mine. This one has $10,555 of extra options that mine doesn't.

Do I need the Prem package? No, but if I had to accept it to get the SDM, maybe.

What would be a good price to get the new truck? Maybe $ 52-53k ?

Frikken internet.....

Now for the kicker, sit back down for this.

Extras I have added already.
Seat covers I can remove and use on the newer truck so Im good there. Good

Exhaust tip I can remove and reinstall the tailpipe back to original. Good

Front hood struts I can remove and reuse. Good

Rear bed liner I can remove and reuse. Good

Dashboard cover I can remove and reuse. Good

Amp side steps I can remove and reinstall. Good/Bad Sold the original am TRD boards so.
Added a Rough Country 1 1/2" spacer to the front coilers I can reuse. Good

Ravelco anti theft device. Maybe Bad. Might be a problem as they don"t remove and reinstall typically only new installs. I will call and check with them Monday since it was only installed a month ago. Maybe I can work something out with them since I am a returning customer if not I eat it I guess.

Tires, yes tires, I sold the original Goodyear tires and replaced with some Falcon Wildpeak AT4W Still using the TRD wheels. I would tell the dealer to swap tires over for the trade in as they would get brand new tires, hopefully that won't be an issue.

I also have an appointment with Dirt King for the 15th of this month for them to install a Prerunner kit. Good that it's not on yet, great maybe. Im sure I could just call and reschedule for 2 months down the road to install they dont give a s... what vehicle they put the kit on as its all already paid for.

Sorry for the War and Peace novel here but and advise would be appreciated. I will probably do what I want but more info is better than less right?

Oh and get this............ Seriously...... Wife doesn't care one way or the other, not upset or anything she said do what you want.
That doesn't help me

Well I’m guessing your not over it šŸ˜Ž

Call them back and ask what they are willing to offer? If you don’t like it, sell yours by owner? Good thing is you have until March!

FYI…. Wife saying do what you want! Really is helpful šŸ˜‡

Didn’t mention earlier but I use the SDM 10X more than the rear locker. Just about anytime I’m off-road under 18MPH. Didn’t want to SWAY you too much.

That’s some funny sh.. right there!
I did put a $500 deposit down over the phone when I was talking to the sales guy on it so I have some time to decide which way to go.
Anyone got an idea on what I could get for my truck after I change it back to the same condition as when I bought it?

Get the 2026. You will love the SDM. I agree, I use it every time that truck is on dirt. I have upgrade package and wish mine was premium. The cameras are what I would want. If wife says ok, that's a green light, buddy. Get the best deal you can and don't look back.
