Toyota should have issued a TSB to replace all the 1st Gen intake covers, but they didn't.

Yep - once they made a running production change it should have been obvious that all of the THs would need to be updated.

Wow, hard to believe. 13 months I've owned the truck and 12 months since the diagnosis of an electrical short in the DS bed scene light harness and I finally have working lights!!! I also have the updated desert air intake cover courtesy of the Toyota regional office that responded to my lemon law complaint. Toyota should have done that upgrade on what few hundred Trailhunters, maybe, that had been sold with the crap cover before they put a QC hold to fix them last summer.

Well yes I did. Came out great. I was a little concerned about the paint and the rocker shutz on the lower part of the door and fender, but perfection! Ended up being about 8K for front fender and drivers door plus all the ancillary materials.

They use a paint color scanner and not color code. It came up with something like a Renault color from 1987. Not the current Toyota Bronze Oxide. WTF?? But it is perfect!

They did upgrade/replace the desert air intake cover. I'd had 2 previous 'complaints' about the original design ignored. Toyota really blew it not fixing the early Trailhunters as they knew they had a poor design a d put the entire production on QC hold to fix all the trucks not yet sold.

@brentbba do a quick check and make sure the dealer plugged back in the fan switch after doing the BSM update. The procedure calls for disconnecting the switch, my dealer forgot to reconnect it causing my truck to overheat. ?
