Yeah, sorry. TexasBlueCrush was uncertain of where I got that speed info.

As for the Automatic....I don't know for sure. It should shift up into 3rd at some point to give you more speed. Here's some info I found in the owners manual, but I can't find anything that specifically limits you to 2nd or 18mph or whatever in 4LO.

-In Automatic transmission "Sport" mode - you've selected 2nd gear, but you should be able to select 3rd yourself by pushing the shifter forward.
-MTS doesn't seem to have any posted limits on what speed you can go, but this might be a factor
-Stability bar disconnect only activates below 18mph. I dont think this is your problem though.
-Stability Control or Traction control would limit the transmission or engine output if it thinks its slipping. To disengage both the stability control and traction control completely: be stopped, press and hold the traction button for at least 3 seconds. All traction aid limits are off and you can run wild.

If you've covered all of this, then I'm not sure what could be wrong.
Not sure about the shifting thing. But I'll give it a try. All good information though! Thank you so much

There is always the manual shift option?? If 4-lo 1st is too slow for you, maybe try 2nd or 3rd?
I walk faster then my old jeep moved if I just let the idol take it forward in 4-lo. Haven't tried it with the truck... yet. ?
So are you saying that I should switch over to the manual transmission when I go to four low instead of the automatic

You can if you want to be able to shift into a higher gear and thus be able to go faster. In the manual it's called "S" mode or as it has been said earlier on this post "Sport". It just gives to a different level of control for what gear you are using.

I think that's my answer. I just hit the sand and gave it a shot. Works a lot better that way. If you're just in the normal drive it seems like it never wants to get out of first but the s works pretty good. Thank you!

It’s completely different driving experience in 4L. Revs high for sure, but it will shift. Just play with it a little. Its capabilities are impressive!

I’ve been in the same situation in deep loose sand. In 4L seems like you can’t get going fast enough. Used 4H and came close to stuck a couple of times on narrow trails. Some even curvy two way traffic. But I think The Kirk has some things to try. Thanks. Can’t do that for a few months. Will see.

Mine holds onto each gear too long in 4 low. You can't use 4h for forest roads because it heats up the transmission. This is the only truck I've had where you have to even think about this stuff....

Has anyone noticed that the 4-LO option on the 2024 TRD Off-Road feels like it is geared too low. I want to shift up cause it revs up so tight. Am I missing something? I've never had a truck move so slowly in 4-LO. You can't get a good run going in the sand. Going too slow is going to get me stuck.
No, and I like the really deep gearing reduction but my use is work/task oriented more than driving 4x4s for a hobby or fun. So far 4 high has been fine when a scenario needs momentum.

When driving in sand, snow or loose material, use 4H and turn off that dang traction control.

I too am surprised how long 4L holds in gear before it shifts. I wish I could manual shift it sooner then the set shift points . I have tried in the sport mode and it

I will have to try this a few more times. Last time out I was playing with 4L in the sport mode and it would only shift at the set points not manually when I tried to shifting it

Yes, you are unclear of the low range concept. The whole point of low range is to go slow. Personally, I don't think low range is low enough on my Tacoma. But then, my 4Runner has dual transfercases with a low range ratio of 4.56:1 (2.28x2.28), compared to the Tacoma 2.57:1.

You need to use high range if you want to ricky-race in the sand.
