To level my truck I decided to go with Bilstein 5100s because they are 1. Cost effective and 2. A significant upgrade over stock SR5 shocks. This video really reinforced that second thought for me + my 4x4 guy throws them on all his rigs and he does some gnarly shit.
Anyways, I got all 4 bilsteins for $505 delivered. I did the rears myself as you don't even have to lift the truck. That 30 minutes and 4 bolts saved me $200. The front and alignment I had done by a local 4x4 shop which only set me back $515. So $1,020 OTD for a leveled SR5 with upgraded suspension.
I had only found two examples of Bilstein 5100s on the 4th gen. One was a TRD OR on Facebook who used the 2.1" setting and said it was perfectly level. The other was a reddit user who used the 1.8" setting on a sport and also said that it was perfectly level. I wanted a little rake so went with the 1.4" setting and guess what ? Mine is perfectly level
A hair under 39" from road to fender all the way around with a full tank of gas.
I know @magicbenjils had some issues finding the right height for his 5100s and his truck ended up being squatted until he went to the 1" setting. I'm not sure why there's so much discrepancy truck to truck, but will reach out to Bilstein to try and get an answer and update here.
My 4x4 guy is awesome and offered to disassemble the front and lower the perch setting to 1" for $50, but I don't want to make him do that. I actually love the look of it leveled out like this. If I do want a little rake I will likely throw in the Apache Off-road .5" rear spacers.
Someone here offered me TRD OR Hybrid take off suspension, which was super nice and would have saved me some money, but the OR suspension doesn't provide any lift except possibly a small amount of lift in the front if you use the springs from a hybrid with a higher spring rate, but Toyota could not confirm if or how much it would actually lift. The 1" overall lift that people have on the OR from the dealer is from the tires alone, not the suspension.
Here are a couple before and after shots. Will update the photos when I get out with a real camera.
Cheers!
