Condenser struck by (something) Toyota will not replace under warranty

Trophy trucks have typically 37" off-road racing tires, and they kick up more rocks than a rock beach when they pass a stock-mini Toyota with stock radiator up front.

Point was, never had a rock hit my factory radiator up front in 7 desert races..

That's the kicker. He blames toyota for that stray rock and can't be convinced otherwise. Its somehow a design flaw to have any openings for airflow on the front of a truck, even though its the same on every truck. Also apparently they should have chicken wire or mesh even though no other manufacturer has that either. But they should cover it under warranty, when no other manufacturer would do that either.

I blame Toyota for not even giving a shyt about something I had no idea happened. It's called customer service. All Toyota customer service stated was to make up an "accident" with my insurance company and file an insurance claim while I have a full warranty to 100,000 above just the powertrain.

That shows the manufacturer really doesn't give a shyt about long-term customers, your fault 100%, we will not care to assist.

I think he’s just looking for attention - click bait. If he isn’t, as I said, the poor Toyota dealer employees that have to deal with him. Somethings not right with how his mind works - and to be fair the world is full of people with mental health issues, forums aren’t immune to them.

I have been driving Toyota trucks over 30 years now, yup three decades including racing them off-road and on road courses including a short rally event. But what would I know about these trucks over the last 3 decades.

And what did it have to do with the AC repair? The minute you need to post your resume to justify your complaint despite what other members are telling you, there’s something wrong.

The relationship to Baja is crazy, theoretically a stone could go into the rad of one of those trucks. But because they are higher off the dirt, usually doesn’t happen, point is they aren’t mass produced trucks.

Dude, you never been through an ISO audit have you?

You have to be precise in your work, show defined procedures and documentation to where the employee or process is well defined and being followed. That shows CREDIBILITY with the work you are doing, and it will show with not only the quality, but getting certified which leads to trust by the consumer and customer base out there.

Plus, I do not need to get into the legal framework of doing shotty work and the driver gets into some wreck on public roads that could result in property damage but personal injury or death. Very big legal framework that insurance companies will have attorney's ready to prosecute or defend.

I was a manager of a large LTL trucking company facility and one of my drivers ran through a stop sign and put a driver into the hospital. The DVIR was immediately confiscated by attorneys in my files to see if the driver was showing any defects with braking or any operation of the tractor and his history of driving with his CDL and so forth. Legal and laws play a huge role when dealing with road vehicles on public roads.

The oil change sticker on my Camry stating to return at 155,000 miles when I only have 18,000 miles can be a legal issue if the owner does not know better. The sticker said is great evidence for any jury to rule on.

Yes, driving my truck on public roads without the seatbelts on shows the tech could care less for rules not only society has defined by criminal punishment and fines, but Toyota warns how many times about driving safely when you start your truck, you know obey all public rules and laws of the road and so forth.

So, the tech violates this showing a lack of credibility in judgement and workmanship on the tasks he is to be doing for the customer and Toyota in general. That would not look good to a jury or judge. Violating said policy and rules is not a good look for not just the dealer, but the Toyota uniform the techs wears. That would be Toyota's image with the general public.

I am glad you pointed out that you could care less for the rules of the road, customer service, and not following basic procedures and policy when you spend good money on a truck. Shotty work is acceptable by you and not following set procedures.

This is very much a common and ongoing issue with the Grand Highlander. Owners have resorted to installing a diy two piece mesh screen behind the bumper to protect the rads against rock strikes.

It’s definitely a design issue on Toyota. Form over function.

I agree, Toyota could do better with their bumper openings especially with such a huge nose on this truck.

I have had that exact kit saved in my Amazon cart for like a year now lol. Maybe it’s time to hit purchase! I agree that the lower area underneath between the bumper and skid plate is a very vulnerable area. Should be a screen in the summer and blocked off in the winter to help keep the engine warmer (I’ll be doing that for this winter to hopefully help alleviate my oil dilution issue in the extreme cold).

Yup, Toyota poor design or cheap parts, either way, they will not cover the bill and have to make up an "accident" with insurance claim.

Sad that Toyota will not assist and blame you, the driver.

Since Toyota makes weak condensers, I finished phase 1 of the front project. Basic chicken wire and self-tappers plugged the 4 openings on lower chin.

Does not have to look pretty, gets the job done that Toyota lacks.

Yes, Toyota has gone cheaper and cheaper in their designs and materials.

6-speed manual transmission, poor design, replaced at 15k miles by Toyota.

Now, I am still in negotiations with the dealer after I sent them some of my forward-facing camera inputs. But the a/c condenser is of weak materials to just crack open a small hole like it did.

Oxi, I hear your pain and frustration and I get it. I believe contacting Toyota was the right thing to do and bring to their attention this issue. Unfortunately they did not value your loyalty and give you some good will and cover something towards this.

Clearly this was not your fault and perhaps not Toyotas either. However by bringing this to their attention was the right thing to do.

If its cheap parts, poor design or whatever, we all experience road debris at some point and hopefully if enough complain maybe some designer at Toyota will take this into consideration on future designs. Only until it costs Toyota money, reputation or both they may not care. I believe in process improvement/product feedback and hopefully Toyota follows through somehow.

I complained years ago to Toyota about replacing my broken antenna on my Tundra after it snapped off in a car wash. They literally had to remove the entire dash to replace it and cost me $350 in labor several years ago for a $15 antenna. Poor design and wanted their engineers to know. They gave me a $300 credit toward my next service. This was all my fault on breaking the antenna, not looking for them to pay for my error on not removing it before I went through a car wash, but I was complaining on what extent the dealer had to go through to replace it and its cost. I just called to complain in what I felt was a design flaw for its replacement. I too am a 30yr plus Toyota truck owner and on my 5th truck with them. I have been loyal to them and they could have easily offered you something for your trouble, especially since you just had a major issue with something else on the truck. Just my thoughts on this and after reading this tread many will probably disagree with my opinion.
