You should attach a trickle charger otherwise that new battery will go soon too.
good to hear, but I’d suggest checking resting voltage a couple hours after driving. Make sure it’s keeping the 12V properly charged - otherwise you’ll prematurely kill the new battery.
If my Voltage reads 14.3 would it be safe to assume that the alternator is charging the 12v battery?

The purpose of my suggestion is that if you leave any car sitting for a long periods of time especially during cold temperatures the battery will drain.

yes, though the hybrids without 4th AUX switch don’t have alternators and the charging comes from the hybrid battery system.

key though is the battery voltage a couple hours after you’ve last driven. Fully charged should be 12.8V or so.

Yes, all vehicle in the past three+ decades have some level of parasitic draw.

If they keep their battery fully charged and don’t have excessive draw, they can sit for a reasonable period without weeding a trickle charger.

…If I already owned one with this problem, and got this BS from Toyota, I’d get an assessment from a properly certified independent mechanic and start Lemon Law proceedings.
…When guys claim to their wives & gfs they don’t do drama. But they do, they get their panties twisted over a DC-DC converter that refuses to overload a lead acid battery that sits in the cabin 🤏🏽 😆

Are you suggesting Toyota intentionally only half charges the 12V sealed lead acid battery because it’s in the pax compartment, thereby guaranteeing early battery failure as well as creating issues for people who might leave their truck a couple weeks?

That seems like a pretty stupid design decision Instead of simply putting the battery under the hood as with every other vehicle.

Do explain how it makes sense to do that?

No I’m suggesting you stop the bitching and upgrade your OEM shit which is clearly not cutting it for your drive schedule of 10mi/month and get with the times and upgrade that one-size-fits-all Ned Flanders starter battery to something that can handle sitting a long ass time. Get something like an Odyssey X-AGM24F Battery and enjoy life for a change 🤙🏼

Bitching in the direction of Toyota Corporate on a free website hunting for lawyers over a lemon law about letting your truck sit for weeks without disconnecting the battery. This is some funny shit, I think there’s a bunch of privileged 1st world gerrys with nothing better to do but bitch about their OEM battery. I couldnt help myself. Barring you had a defunct battery that got swapped, clamoring on and on about how bad Toyota engineering is really fking laughable. Go fking design a better rig.

Now if you’d excuse me, I’ll see my way out & never come back into this thread. Enjoy all

LOL. Nice unhinged rant. I can imagine all the spittle on your screen after that.

Hope it made you feel better about paying $70 for a truck with a defective 12V charging system. Your upgraded battery is also a bandaid - it will fail prematurely from being kept at 50% SOC.

Me? I was very interested in a hybrid 4th gen OR initially, but at this point I'm not going to risk getting one of the ones which needs to be jump started after sitting three days despite driving hundreds of miles per month.

The odd part of it all is that the problem doesn’t seem to impact everyone nor does it seem to impact the non-hybrids.

oh, and discussing stuff / expressing opinions is what people do on forums.

This isn't an airport, you don't need to announce your departure.

I was on his side.. guess he’s just hangry..

Seems the real solution is to log out of or delete the Toyota App.

I’d try this before a trickle charger.

Welcome to the 21st century where it's not expected that a consumer needs to disassemble their vehicle to go on holidays for 2 weeks. Maybe that made sense in the 70s but most of us have moved on and have no interest in going back.

Its true all vehicles have some parasitic battery drain but most don't become disabled after 2 weeks. If they do - they have a design flaw.

I just had my 12v battery replaced under warranty. Since new last year I was driving my truck regularly then in December it was sitting parked in my garage for about a week. Went to start it and dead. Called Toyota Roadside assistance and they sent out AAA to jump start the truck. Worked for a few weeks before I could get it to the dealer to investigate it. They rans some tests and was able to get a new one under warranty. Hopefully not going to be an issue anymore. I was asking the dealer about any parasitic draws (dash cam, Toyota app) and they said not likely. I know my dash cam will not keep working while parked if battery gets below a certain level and they said the Toyota app only draws power for very short period to get updates then disconnects. I turn the app off and force stop it after I check the app.

I’m hearing lots of incidents similar to this from other owners. Wonder what the issue is. Bad batches of batteries during production?

I came to the Taco forums to see what others have been experiencing and sounds like I am not the only one with this issue. At least it died in my garage and not while I was out on the road and it was replaced under warranty.

Honestly I’ve not seen this in any other “common” (Toyota,Mazda, ford etc ) dealership but If you visit any bmw or Mercedes and Audi dealership especially here in the north with showcase cars displayed inside the dealership you will find all of them hooked up to a trickle charger usually Ctek brand. This is where I got the idea to do my cars when I’m not driving them for extended period of time. I think all cars/trucks battery drain given a certain situation and certain outside temperatures.
