Because we are unable to directly inspect your vehicle, we are not in a position to provide a technical diagnosis of the vehicle hood pole concerns you are experiencing.


We rely on the technical expertise of Toyota dealers as Toyota dealers’ technicians are specialized in the diagnosis and repair of Toyota vehicles. They are provided with extensive training and have access to state of the art equipment to help in the accurate diagnosis of your vehicle.


We would be happy to look into this further for you. At your earliest convenience, please schedule an appointment to have the concern inspected. If additional assistance is needed after the dealer inspection, please respond to this comment with an attachment of the work order diagnosis so we can further review.

Seems like Toyota's first thought is something is wrong with just this one vehicle and thus this one vehicle needs to be evaluated. I have tried this on ones in the showroom, and I can repeat it on any Taco.

I contacted Toyota Brand Engagement about concerns with my transmission. I learned that it is their policy to go only through their dealers with issues like yours. So first you have to take it to the dealer and they will decide what happens next. If they agree there is a problem Toyota will take the next steps. But if the dealer just says that is normal then you are basically stuck and you really can't do anything.

@MHG I plan to add hood struts, which I wanted anyway and your experience proves that it is pretty important to do that. I don't think it is worth the effort to pursue this further unless the dealer agrees that it is a problem. That is not right but just being realistic makes me say it is the best option that we currently have.

I agree completely with TacoFreak, it’s total BS by Toyota but probably not worth the aggravation since I have been considering hood struts anyway. I love my truck and have had an overall good experience with Toyota, largely because I live near a good dealership. However the corporate speak on this is unfortunate. I am by no means an engineer or even that mechanically inclined and it took me all of 30 seconds to replicate this by simply pushing up on the hood and having the prop fall out. Toyota will ignore this until a hood slams on some mechanic’s hand or a kid’s head.
