Driver inner door handle failure and replace

I swear I’ve been opening this handle with only one finger out of paranoia it would break. So many people complaining their’s failed so I’ve been gentle. Alas, it still broke but at least it is the easiest handle I’ve ever replaced in my life. Literally can be done with nothing but a Phillips screwdriver.

Sometimes when you are too careful things seem to break more often. Maybe prying softly and going slow puts more stress on it than just a quick pull.

The aftermarket or Toyota needs to come up with a metal or reinforced improved version as this is just silly. We can’t just have a plastic door handle keep breaking as these trucks age.

Holy plastic overload, Batman! Sad to see that in a Toyota.

I looked up that part, MSRP is $72.01 but my local Toyota is selling for $57.61.

A few years ago, I had to get rid of my beloved Husquvarna snow blower because the entire top assembly was plastic so various cable pulls ripped off the parts and they decided to discontinue making the replacing parts....so I bought an Ariens which has hardly NO plastic on it.

Honestly thanks for posting this, I've noticed one of the many Tacoma rattles inside the cabin is coming from the door handle cable. Whenever I have my music on and it hits a moderate to heavy bass if I pull the handle very slightly (I've had many boring hours just driving alone on the highway for work) to put a little tension on the door cable it silences it. Good to know how easy pulling the door card off is now, going to insulate around that cable and handle today. Appreciate the part number as well.

I thought this was a known failure. Though, I thought it was the back seat. Folks have been getting it replaced under warranty.

Mine is in the shop for this right now, waiting on the parts to arrive. (for a month so far) Luckily I have a company car I can drive. I hate rolling the window down to open the door from the outside on a brand new truck.

Front and rear handles are the same part number. Just different left to right.

Ridiculous that someone should even have to think about breaking the opener. It's probably vegan plastic

Just one thing to keep an eye on as the new models comes out. My wife has a 2017 Prius and it, originally, came with the cartridge oil filter and I hated that. In the 2018, Toyota switched to the spin-on filter so I bought the entire assembly, removed the old one, and now it takes the spin-on filter. (YZZN1 which is the same as the Taco)

We'll have to keep that part number and check in a year or so and hope it's been "superceded" by a better part. (Hopefully Toyota kaizen will identify it and fix it.)
