I've brought the subject up before when i had my 3rd gen Taco and now it's all about the 4th gen. I want a full power, drop-down rear window for my Taco. Yes, the entire rear glass window rolls completely down. Toyota offers this for the Tundra, but why not the Tacoma ? Has anyone seen an aftermarket install with this mod ?

I had this style rear window on a 36 Ford coupe, on that car there was a need for air flow/ventilation. Given the high cost of an option like this. how do you justify it?

Well Charlie i believe it would be on the pricy side for sure but the added space would be the perfect RV for me and my travels. If i could get this done to my Taco I would then purchase a top of the line insulated camper shell, then remove the center counsel between the driver and passenger seat. I would then have easy access from the drivers seat, passing through the the rear window, and into the back of the pickup. A single bed, mini kitchen w/fridge, a toliet, and a TV, and my RV would be complete.

I am constantly on the road throughout the year spending a ton of cash on hotels. It would pay for it self the first year. This would be an iron-clad, extremely secure vehicle with locks on every door. I would feel very comfortable pulling into Interstate rest areas and truck stops for the night. I honestly can't believe Tundra owners haven't figured this out. And please don't say "then buy a Tundra". I keep my Taco locked up in the garage every night. You can't do that with a Tundra. :)

Given the goals stated, it would seem that a straightforward removal of the rear glass would be a far less pricey solution. If a divider still be needed, perhaps that could be built as part of the RV section in the bed. Sounds like a good project.

You're planning to climb through the rear window into the bed????? Why, just, why? Why not just open the driver door and walk around to the back and access the camper through the door at the back?

Good God man..... Kieth, Yes. Do you not know what stealth camping is ? You do NOT ever just "open the drivers door and walk around...." Are you crazy ? That will get you shot, raped, or thrown in jail. The dome light in our Tacos lite up th sky when u pop the door open and then you just exposed yourself to a lot of bad potential joo-joo.

Ya dog-gone right I would climb through the rear window and into the rear of my Taco where i have all the ammentities of a Motel 6 or a Super8 motel has to offer.

I get the desire, but have you considered removing the rear glass and weatherproofing the couple inches between the cab and the camper? It would probably be easier and cheaper to fab a fiberglass tunnel there—with body-matched paint—than retrofitting the rear glass to a powered vertical sliding rear window.

If it's about security, if someone is breaking into your camper, a pane of glass isn't going to stop them.

If you're dead-set on the rear sliding window, I haven't seen it in the aftermarket, but I'm sure there's a custom shop or two that would be willing to take it on—assuming you're ditching the rear seat if you have one.

That will get you shot, raped, or thrown in jail. The dome light in our Tacos lite up th sky when u pop the door open and then you just exposed yourself to a lot of bad potential joo-joo.
I prefer camping in bear country than crazy country, but to each their own.

I wonder how close the sizing would be from the 4Runner’s sliding rear window system. Got to consider the shape too. Tacoma’s rear glass is curved. Maybe find out how 4R’s shaping compares. Seems easier to remove if one were sourced from a pick-a-part.

toyota has stated that the space behind the rear seats is limited in the tundra doublecab and is why it doesn't get the roll down window and the crewmax does. same applies here on the tacoma.

Assuming you are serious and this isn't a joke, WTH. You need to seriously reconsider where you decide to park for an overnight. If the area is that bad, you probably won't have wheels come morning and find yourself up on blocks. Also, regarding the dome light, you know there is a switch and you can just turn it off before opening the door.

No Kieth, this is not a joke. I may have over exaggerated the dangers of stealth camping but not by much. I travel a lot and I'm just looking for an alternative to pricy hotel sleepovers. I know and see many people sleeping in their rigs at night in a hotel parking lot worry free and that's kinda what I'm looking for.
