Yep - the OEM mud flaps are lame beyond belief.

When I bought my Canadian market replacements from my dealer I said Toyota should rebate the $60 they charged for the ones that came on my truck, and the parts guy just gave me a blank stare. No one at my dealer so far has really cared much about what I think, except the nice lady who sold my truck to me.

Crazy the stuff they do for .5 mpg, ie tiny mudflaps. It all gets thrown out the window above 70mph anyways.

got some additional wind noise with the big ahh rokblokz but that's part of the game, but you know they're like 4 mini sails for sure.

My dealer in Iowa city had no clue about mud guards/flaps or part numbers until they got the information from this blog I forwarded to the salesman who sold our truck to us. They even omitted the flaps from my son’s 24 SR5 because there wasn’t a Toyota part number at the time so they rebated the $190.00 that was added to the sales price. He has over 55,000 miles on an aftermarket set and no stone damage at all. The initial sale is obviously the most important thing to the dealer it seems.

Have you looked at the RokBlockz mud flaps? Looks like they provide quite a bit of protection on the side of the truck from crap spinning off the tires.

Have you looked at the RokBlockz mud flaps? Looks like they provide quite a bit of protection on the side of the truck from crap spinning off the tires.

We had the chintzy OEM on our limited IForce Max and at 15-18 mph on gravel we had severe stone damage. The Toyota customer service is great as they are repainting the rear fenders and replacing the rear fender flares then installing a full set of the Canadian flaps that have a lot more coverage. At 15400 miles the photos show how bad it was. My other 3 Toyota trucks had 200K before selling them and only minor stone damage.

Wow - that is the worst stone damage that I have seen on a 4th gen. You would think someone at Toyota would look at the pathetic mud flaps coming on the trucks from the factory and say WTF? It isn't even that they don't know any better, because they put decent flaps on Canadian trucks.

I have had other Toyota trucks and like you I ran them for a long time with factory mud flaps and had almost no chips. Luckily I knew about this and did three things. I put on rock sliders, the Canadian flaps and PPF on the entire sides of my truck. I got one or two small chips before that was all in place, but none since then.

I'm glad that your dealer took care of you and fixed what is obviously a big mistake on Toyota's part. Toyota quality just isn't what it was at one time IMO.

My 2011 had weather tech and if I backed up in turf the front tires pulled them off. Maybe a little too efficient until I trimmed them. Deer hunting turned into mud flap hunting but the distinctive noise was a great clue to the locations.
