Finally got my HAM installed. Yaesu FTM-150. Head unit is mounted to an ICS dash mount. Main unit is mounted to the side of my GooseGear rear seat delete. I've already moved it once so the cords are long. I'll worry about that later. That microphone port socket for the center console looks like a nice solution. Right now my mic is plugged into the main unit behind the seat and the mic sits in the rear cup holder. Cord management is evolving.

I would use a Diamond mount for the mic that attaches to the passenger side grab handle, but it's getting used by my Garmin Overlander.

Radio is powered by a 50Ah Li battery mounted in the rear seat delete. Battery is charged by a Powerwerks 2A/4A/8A DC-DC charger off the engine.

Has anyone found a RJ45 mic plug like the one above that will ship to Canada?
The eBay product link can’t ship to Canada. I took an gamble ordering a similar one from AliExpress but it didn’t fit.

Here’s a probably dumb question. Anyone know the size of the nuts on the battery? I’m wanting to add lock washers and wing nuts to secure my power, but I haven’t a clue what size they are.

I posted last year about my HAM Install, Now I will post about my GMRS Install. Some of it thanks to those who posted in the thread

Before I get into it, when I lifted the center plate to install the Jack in a blank, I noticed the other blank was pre-wired. Swaybar disconnect harness maybe? The one on the right. The blank is the far right

Anyway, my dilemma was were to install the tiny main unit, Midland - MXT275VP4-15 Watt GMRS MicroMobile Two-Way Radio and the mic. This was complicated having the HAM already installed

First I fished the wires through the firewall including the antenna cable. I noticed a lot of foam which is likely sound deadening material. Up on the top left of this area on the inside passenger floor board there is a nice space for the main unit. I used Gorilla two-sided tape to attach it. It may not hold well, but in the little spot with carpet over it should be good to go.

I used the spare switch spot on the center console to install an RJ-45 jack and ran the main unit to the jack. You need a double male small cable to make it work and I had one left over from the HAM Radio. You can get these cheap anywhere

I don't like the current Mic setup on the grab bar, so I am still waiting for one of these

I will either get a ram mount mic holder or take the ball off and mount one of my existing Mic holder.

I did have to move the HAM Mic and I used a Ram Mount with that and carefully screwed the thinnest ram mount ball into the thick plastic there.

Thanks Jon,

I want to see if I can make it work with one of the holders I have. Likely not. I like it close the grab bar on that side. Right now I have 3 zip ties holding a Mic holder down and it isnt a bad solution :)

Can you post a pic of that area? I felt around in there and didn't feel any area big enough for the Midland.

I am also wondering what the prewired stuff on the bottom of that third switch is. I plan to ask for an answer from a Toyota service guy on my next maintenance. I also used the fourth switch spot for the pass through. Looks Great man!

I have stuff on the first 3 switchs; Towing, Camera, Diff locker. I am talking about the 4th which is blank on top. Let us knoww what you find out. The 5th is the fully blank one that I used.

Its all covered up with carpet. I didnt realize there was foam in there until I started pulling stuff back to fish the power and antenna wires. Its actually up and to the left a bit. Pull the carpeet back in that left upper corner as far as you can go and feel around. There are aa couple of indents where thee foam overlaps. That is where I put the GMRS radio. I have a premium Off Road and don't know if that foam is standard on all Tacomas

I went and pulled the carpet back to better illustrate where. With the carpet tucked in you can't see any wires.

You can see the edg of the radio.

Do I think the double sided tape will hold? No. I don't see the radio going anywhere if everything is tucked in.

Defenitly batter ways to mount the radio there so this may be a temporary method and I may need to figure out how to bolt it in that same location later on.

I will see how it goes
