I got my first Tacoma a few months ago, a TRD Sport and overall I have no complaints and absolutely love it. I previously had a 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 SLT and it had quite a few bells and whistles, one of which was electronically closing side mirrors, which I really miss.

Unfortunately my Taco doesn’t have this feature and I was wondering if anyone knew if this is a mod that can be installed and if so, approximately how much this would run me, and would this have to be performed by the dealership. It’s a pain in the butt to manually fold these in (I know, I know…1st world problem). Appreciate any advice/insight.

Yeah, I would love to have power folding mirrors on my Tacoma, just like I had on my Tundra.

The higher spec trims of the 4Runner have power folding mirrors, so I am betting that they would work on a Taco too. But when a power folding mirror on my Tundra was damaged I had to buy the whole assembly, because the parts inside were not available. I don't remember what that cost me, but I do remember that it was a lot.

There are other things that the 4Runner has that my truck should have had, like mirror/seat memory. What I don't get is why 4Runners have that stuff when they don't really cost much more than the same trim Tacoma.

I'm betting everything should be pre-wired, so it's a matter of either programming or adding a switch.
Someone with an SR added the multi terrain switch to their vehicle and everything worked without programming anything.
(I searched the forum, but I couldn't find it. I know it's here somewhere.)
I added lighted running boards to my Land Cruiser and all I had to do was plug them into the harness underneath that was available and then everything worked, including the lights underneath the mirrors that didn't work until I did that.

I'd love it if the mirrors, especially the passenger would articulate down when throwing it in reverse. My old BMW cars would do that, found it a very useful feature. Especially since I apparently have an affinity to back into spaces.

BMW does mirrors right. My BMW's power fold the mirrors in when I lock the car. And they tilt down in reverse. Power folding mirrors make going through a car wash super easy.

The fact that Toyota's Premium or upper trims don't have power folding mirrors or even seat memory buttons shows they're cutting too many corners to cut costs. The Tacoma is still the best mid-size truck IMO, but they're letting the competition catch up with little things like this. That Ford Ranger is looking a lot better than it did in 2023.

I'd would wan folding mirrors too. I have to fold my left in every time I pull in for the left side of the garage. plenty of room after that. it just would be nice.

the switch worked, but the hardware and software weren't there for it to do anything. especially crawl mode.
Also, I'm willing to bet the 2024 models don't have the wiring for any of the options on the 4runner that the taco doesn't have since they weren't offered. They wouldn't put extra material into the truck for no reason. If they intended to offer it on later year models, they will retool for that.
So the 2025 and later trucks MIGHT have the wiring.
Some adventurous Taco owner will have to procure some of the tech from a 4R and see if it works.

Yeah, you are correct. If it's not an optional upgrade or an option for an upgraded model then no there's no need to put it in there.
