Hey guys, so I had a question about oil change frequency. So I've had my 25 TRD Sport for a little over 4 months now. I just hit 7770 miles on it and I was wondering if it would be fine to wait to get an oil change until 10,000 miles. I go the mountains in it almost every weekend and have about a 15 minute commute to work. I head these driving conditions could warrant a change every 5k. When I took her into the dealer for her 5k maintenance I asked the tech about it and she just said it would be fine to holdoff on the oil change until 10k. I honestly do too, but I'm in a lot of groups where guys are doing break in changes at like 1k or 3k so now I'm worried I missed the ball. Looking for second opinions.

I’m doing mine every 5k…some will say 4k because of the turbo and heat it produces breaks oil down quicker. I would NEVER the 10k miles

I did my first oil change at 1K, then 5K, 10K, and had the dealer do the free 20K. The only reason I went to 20K was because I was on an Alaska/Canada adventure and I couldn't get it changed. My usual interval is 5K-7K.

Changed.mine at 1k, then every 5k or 6 months. Cheap insurance.
Drove my 2012 FJ 170,000, 1 battery, 8 tires, oil and diff changes.
Expect to drive my 2025 TRD Sport 200 k, or longer!

I did mine at 560 miles then again at 3100. Sitting at 3400 now. Personally, I feel oil changes are cheap insurance. I plan on doing them every 4k from here on. I paid for the first 2 oil changes myself at my Toyota dealership. They will still give me a free one at 10k & 20k. I will never go 10k between oil changes on ANY vehicle. Especially one with a turbo.

I think the question should be asked at the 1000 mark, then every 5000 times thereafter.
Ya but I saw a video that we should do everytime at the 3000 mark. Also do we do a break in, some say no some yes? Does it matter if I live in a warm or cold state, does that make it less or more frequent? How often do I post this question boys? Straighten me out!

The return on investment will be in the longevity of the engine.
If you are not keeping forever, use the factory recommendations.
I am in the every 5k, oil change/ tire rotation camp.

We already live in a throw away society. I would not allow any car company to dictate an oil change that feeds into an early death of an engine so the consumer will have to buy another vehicle, making them even more money so they can continue to build inferior products that won’t last as long as the previous version.
Climbing off my soap box! 😁
