guys can't we just disable the setting in the in the dash? the button won't open the tailgate if that setting is off. Am i wrong or missing something? Seems a bit unnecessary to unplug the button.

I just reconfigured my dash for the first time, will go back and take a look…

I just looked into my dash settings couldn’t find anything controlling the driver control console. Go ahead and toss up how you’re able to control those analogue switches from within the digital dash

I only know about this because my tailgate button didn’t work when I bought the truck. The dealer helped me figure it out.

Of course, they could still break the window and unlock the truck and still get into your tailgate. But I think at that point your truck is probably gone too.

That’s super weird I don’t see that setting, will triple check…

..that’s the thing tho, if the truck’s alarm is on/locked they can’t unlock the truck (cabin) after breaking the window. Roll down your window and lock the truck, get the fob in a faraday bag and test it.. if you manually open the doors with the vehicle locked yes the alarm goes off, but lock buttons are inop

EDIT: found it! Yea buried deep in vehicle settings. Good eye! 🤙🏼 gonna put black sticker over the button until I trade it in

it seems like it would be trivial to wire something like this into the "AUX4" blank, and just use it to disable a single wire in the tailgate button, prohibiting it from working unless you ALSO held the button while pushing it. Or you could make it a hard switch, and "hide" it elsewhere, but thieves won't know to hold the second requirement to make your normal tailgate button actually work?

Awesome! Glad you found it. Hopefully now you see my confusion. I was wondering why someone would go through the extra work to unplug and replace the physical button when you could just disable it in the settings.

Side note: it also disables the buttons on the side of the tailgate and the kick function too. It just becomes a regular manual tailgate.

Just disable the power tailgate and use it manually if you’re worried about that. But as @trailhunger said, once your theft alarm is on, the door locks turn off so the tailgate should power tailgate should turn off too. Emphasis on should….
