Howdy,

Tyre Reviews is my favorite go-to for tire reviews. Especially when it comes to snow/wet/ice for whichever vehicle I'm shopping for.

Since many of us in this space are using LT ATs instead of P-rated tires, and the season's upon us for snow in the upright hemisphere, thought you may enjoy.

Owning 2 sets of MTs right now, I've found them a very good offroad tire. Not yet having used either vehicle with them in heavy winter yet, I already expected MTs with their big blocks and fewer sipes, to fall well-behind the KO3s.

Good for weekend tyre researching :)

Tires Tested:
Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT
Nokian Outpost nAT
Toyo Open Country AT III
BFGoodrich All Terrain T/A KO3
Falken Wildpeak AT4W

Test Size: LT 265/70 R17
Temperature Range: -7°C to -13°C
Location: Controlled snow and ice testing facility

There are too many options out there now to try out 5 tires and claim you have the best. There are many You Tubers doing empirical testing on many different brands often out scoring these.

I have found a lot of it is personal preference after 49 years of Alaska driving.

I’ve been running KO2’s for years but going to try out Bridgestone A/T this winter.

Pretty much my experience. The BFG ko2 everyone said was so good just packed full of snow rending them useless. The Fslkens were far superior.

Yes. There are many good contenders, the A/T class alone has its extremes and types. With a lot of experience with 3PMSF including dedicated and the year-round types, there are important things to consider. Even being a powder chaser, I still have to do no shortage of pavement driving and distances where many 3PMSF tires are not so great.

I did notice Bridgestone entered the year-round 3PMSF with an A/T road friendly model I'll look into, and I'll compare to the BFG Trail Terrain TA that please me more than expected.

After being rather disappointed and annoyed with the Falken tiers my truck came with, 2k miles and basically legally bald, I ended up with the Bridgestone a/t ascent. So far very happy with how they handle but no snow in my area yet to see how they handle that. Very much looking forward to it, I have always enjoyed playing in snow! 🙂

In all my A/T tire research, leaning towards 3 peak snow rating for snowy winters, I see familiar names here. BFG KO3, Falken AT4W, and Toyo AT3 are the top 3 I see everywhere. I am leaning Toyo AT3 because they seem to be the cheapest, the lightest, and performance is marginally the same as the other competitors. I read often on forums and groups that KO3s aren’t great on wet roads, and AT4Ws are the heaviest. For me, while the would all be a fine choice, this makes it easy to feel confident in a Toyo AT3 tire purchase.

Great assessment and agree.

I had Falken AT3W on my old vehicle and now have Nokian nAT. The nAT is definitely better in the snow.
