I haven't heard of a screen before. But my old Tacoma had a mouse nest in the glove box, and I'd regularly find mice poop in the cup holders. By I park in the bush for days on end, so lots of critters about. Never had any wiring chewed up though. I'd be interested in this option, but it does seem awfully expensive.
Saw a video on a 4th Gen FB group yesterday of a guy that had a god awful grinding sound when he turned the AC on. Sounded like a broken fan blade just spinning into other blades or something.

Turns out, a mouse had chewed through his cabin air filter and got stuck in the blower motor and died, and he was basically just mincing it....

Has anyone done the rodent screen protection that Toyota offers? I took my truck in to have some of the recalls done and they said they saw evidence of rodents, nothing crazy, just some foot prints. They asked if me if wanted their rat protection mesh to stop them from getting into the cabin and other areas where they could potentially get in and start chewing wires. It’s $562 dollars. I’m wondering if anyone has had this service from the dealers and if it’s worth it. It just feels like another one of their add-ons that they try to push on me every time I go in.
This is so timely. A couple few days ago I started up my Tacoma and heard this weird, whirling, clunking noise behind the glovebox. I wondered what the heck it was. It lasted maybe 10 seconds or so. Just figured it had something to do with the evaporator system or some such thing. A couple days later I started smelling something nasty when the blower was on. Today decided to see if i could find out where the stink was coming from. I pulled out the cabin air filter and found a dead mouse and a nest in the air filter its. What a stink! Unfortunately the blower motor must have partially shredded the mouse and splattered its guts in the vanes of the blower. Ugh! It was difficult to get at the blower drum but I was able to clean it out somewhat but it still smells a bit. Might have to pull out the blower and do a deeper clean. ANYWAY… If there’s a screen that’ll prevent this from happening again, I wanna know where I can get one. and how to install it!

Never heard of this.... but I just paid over $3k to fix fuel system parts on my 2021 Volvo. Left it outside for several days.... and some critters got in and ate it all up! You could smell raw fuel and things did not look good. I had to remove the fuel tank and replace a bunch o parts. And my cats are 20 year old indoor versions so no joy there.

Squirrels and rodents like to munch on soy-based hoses and such or so I understand. Vehicles stored around here (Western Washington, rural) invite them to nest under the hood too. I use my garage!
