Besides the obvious recovery gear. 😄

If you could only recommend one item that every Tacoma owner should have on every trip, whether it's for towing, camping, off-roading, road trips, or daily driving, what would it be and why?

Curious to see what makes everyone's must-have list.

During off-road races down in Mexico:

We carried at least 2 spare tires, a 3-ton jack with wood pieces and a hi-lift jack, shovel, snatch straps galore, additional lug-nuts, upper and lower radiator hoses with additional clamps, coolant mix, slave and master fluids, even power steering fluid, alternator belt, power steering belt, zip ties galore, duct tape, spare drive shaft rear on roll cage in back, torsion bar front socket and rear mounts, gear oil, JB Weld, Loctite, ratchtable straps incase motor mounts break and engine wobbles, and other stuff that comes loose, larger JAZ fuel tank from factory, fuses galore, food and water, toilet paper some hygiene stuff, first aid kit, spare clothing and blankets, radio equipment and maps galore (no cell phones back then.

Then drive it back home if you can.

For my 2010 SR5 BOTT or Bug Out Tactical Truck:

Two Spare tires, extra lug nuts, full rear drive shaft assembly, 3/4-inch tow hooks at each corner, snatch straps galore, cum a long manual winch (backup), hi-lift jack, 3-ton jack with wood, as much fuel as you can, spare radiator hoses for all 3 points and new clampage, fuse kit, jumper cables though this was a 5-speed manual, coolant galore, master and slave fluids, power steering fluids, gear oils galore, serp belt, BOTC or bug out tool chest full of hand tools galore, paper maps galore and other survival books in sealed BOMC bug out map container, I do not want to mention weapons and ammo but never forgot about knives galore, shovels, axes, hand saws, camping gear and what you take with camping in terms of fire starting, Marine modular sleeping bags, food, water, gas masks, huge first aid bag, radios, binoculars, bridging ladders, straps galore, zip ties, duct tape, Loctite galore, among other general survival gear.

The truck's payload was increased with OME coils up front and Deaver springs in rear to unofficially make this truck a 1-ton Toyota. To not only handle the additional weight of the Bud-Built skid plate system and aluminum topper but the gear we would need to stuff the truck with to move out of our fixed position during times of urgent crisis. Cannot take the whole home and kitchen sink, but you have to plan for something.

I never really finished this BOTT before I sold her, but she was a beast and grabbed many looks on the highways driveway with thumbs up and pics.

Today's Tacoma, not much.

I would say carrying a proper spare tire is the first thing and the necessary gear to change it. I carry a 2 1/4 ton jack with wood in the cab and yes, spare lug nuts in case you lose one. I do have proper retrieval points at each corner.

Other than a jumper cable (even you know it is a 6-speed manual), zip ties and duct tape galore, some fuses, small hand tools, flashlight 6V, handgun and knives galore and a map or two, not much.

I am planning to get a serp belt soon and just keep it and use it to change out at around 100k. This truck is meant to get me to our Alamo (our home) during crisis from work or play and do some work around the property and trips with my wife.

Definitely a Roto pack for long trips offroad, and what is needed to be SELF SUFFICIENT. All the gear,( recovery, tools, and cooking equipment, Diesel heater) to get where i'm going on and off the trail, and everything needed to connect to the world if needed. (Starlink, and Solar generator with 500 watt Solar panel)

there's plenty of space behind the rear seat on even the hybrid so "one thing" is moot.

Disposable Glock
Silky Saw
Knipex pliers
Paper Towels
Toilet Paper
100 mph tape
Tarp
Folding Knife
Flashlight
A good first aid kit, with tourniquets
More first aid
Lighters
def a NOKO jump starter!

these are just for a trip to the mall, when offroad then recovery pak, soft shackles, kinetic rope, shovel, etc

Well, of all the things I do carry, and it's a bunch, I use the "LAST BOKS" by far the most. Why, it's just convenient and "things" aren't rolling around

I second the Noco jump start kit for the hybrid, do not leave home without it!
