Stage 1 Update – Now Live for Gas Models

We’re excited to announce that the Stage 1 calibration update is now live and available for automatic and manual gas model trucks (4th Gen Tacoma and 6th Gen 4Runner). This update introduces some long-requested improvements and sets the stage for future releases.

Automatic Transmission (Gas) Updates

The primary change in this update is the removal of the factory load/boost limiter in 1st gear.
Gas trucks can now reach full target load and boost in 1st and 2nd gear, resulting in:
  • Improved "high-effort" acceleration
    • Half second improvement in 0-60 acceleration
    • Thoroughly tested across various conditions, including full boost launches in 4Lo, with no adverse impact to drivetrain integrity.
  • More consistent low-gear performance under heavy load or spirited driving
  • Consistent torque output from 1st-8th gear under all conditions
Additional changes:
  • Revised torque modeling to support the new load strategy
  • Revised TCU calibration for more consistent gear selection in 1-3rd Gear
Manual Transmission (Gas) Updates

Due to underlying code structure differences between the Auto and Manual ECUs, we're still working on implementing the full load/boost changes for manual trucks. That said, we’re launching a Stage 1 update for manual transmissions today with several user-requested improvements:

  • Increased Rev Limiter (→ 6300 RPM)
These changes now match the automatic transmission calibration and allow manual users to access more of the powerband when needed.
We’re still actively working toward parity on the full load strategy between Auto and Manual platforms and will share updates as development continues.

AGM Battery Profile Support

We’ve also added updated calibrations for vehicles equipped with factory alternators that have fitted AGM profile batteries. These changes revise the charging logic to better suit AGM battery chemistry, improving battery longevity, performance in cold climates, and ensuring accurate state of charge management.

If your vehicle has been upgraded to an AGM battery, reach out to your OTT retailer to request this updated charging profile.

Looking Ahead
  • Stage 2 / Stage 2+: Testing is wrapping up and is expected to be completed by the end of the month.
  • Stage 3 / Stage 3+: Turbo hardware has been finalized and passed high-speed VSR balancing under full oil pressure, exceeding real-world shaft speed requirements. Calibration development is underway.
  • Stage 2 and Stage 3 development for Hybrid models will closely follow gas model development, ensuring parity between platforms as quickly as possible.
*We're on track to begin testing and validation for Stage 3 shortly after Stage 2 wraps.*

Thanks to everyone for your continued support. As always, if you’ve got questions, feedback, or want to schedule your update, reach out to your OTT retailer or message us directly.

I’ve tried looking on your site, but i can’t click on the 4th gen’s for some reason.

But could you give a brief explanation of the Stage 1 vs Stage 2? Looking to get my gas truck tuned soon, wondering if i should hold off for the stage 2.

Apologies on that! We just had a major website revamp, and it's been an undertaking to get everything updated. Our 4G/6G/LC250 sections are behind schedule for posting their data. Promise we're working on it, though!

Stage 1 from OTT is a "calibration only" solution. It's a 30+hp/30+tq improvement, and more all wrapped up into a single calibration. You can read more about the Stage one offering here: https://www.tacoma4g.com/forum/thre...utions-from-overland-tailor-tuning-ott.10653/

For the information on the other planned Stages, this post has the info (*note to self, need to get that posted into our OTT Section..): https://www.tacoma4g.com/forum/threads/has-anyone-done-the-ott-tune.12091/post-176418

If you're not a "premium gas only" type, Stage 2 wont be for you. That will be a premium gas-only calibration that is intended to maximize the potential of the OE turbo using specific upgrades and optimized calibration changes. We're finalizing the testing on this calibration. We will release dyno results, but it won't have the same jump in performance that Stock to Stage 1 had and is more of a stepping stone/prepping stage for Stage 3, where a significant increase in performance/power will be available.

Thanks for the reply! I currently only run 93, just a personal preference with turbo charge motors. Sounds like Stage 2 is what i will be waiting on. I’m stoked to see where the aftermarket support in terms of power goes for these trucks.
