Tacoma offers two powerful engine choices to suit every driver’s needs. The available i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain delivers an impressive 326 horsepower and 465 lb.-ft. of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and has an EPA-estimated 23 MPG combined fuel economy rating. The standard i-FORCE 2.4L turbocharged engine thrills with up to 278 horsepower and 317 lb.-ft. of torque, having an EPA-estimated 26 MPG rating on the highway. For driving purists, a six-speed intelligent manual transmission with rev-matching and stall avoidance is available on select i-FORCE models.
For those who crave serious off-road capability, the Trailhunter grade elevates Tacoma’s legendary ruggedness. Powered exclusively by the i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain, and offered with either a 5- or 6-foot bed, Trailhunter features premium off-road components like Old Man Emu® 2.5-inch forged monotube shocks with rear piggyback reservoirs, a low-profile high-mount air intake, 33-inch Goodyear® Rugged-Terrain tires on 18-inch bronze colored wheels, and signature exterior touches including RIGID Industries® color-selectable LED fog lamps and a bronze-color “TOYOTA” grille with integrated LED light bar.
The Baja-inspired TRD Pro, also exclusive to the i-FORCE MAX and the IsoDynamic Performance Front Seats, uses an innovative air-over-oil shock absorber system to reduce body movement and stabilize the head and neck on rough terrain. TRD Pro also boasts TRD-tuned FOX® QS3 adjustable shocks with remote rear piggyback reservoirs, a TRD performance air intake, 33-inch Goodyear® tires on black 18-inch alloy wheels, and available two-tone paint options.
Tacoma’s drivetrain options include 2WD, part-time 4WD, and full-time 4WD. Most i-FORCE MAX models come standard with 4WD, while Limited trims feature full-time 4WD with an electronic locking center differential. The smooth Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) is now standard on all Limited models, delivering a refined ride on any surface.
The 2026 Tacoma is expected to hit Toyota dealerships this winter, with a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price starting at $32,145 (excluding delivery and handling fees). TRD Pro in Wave Maker color are expected to arrive at dealerships in March of 2026.
Built to Conquer Every Terrain
Tacoma rides on Toyota’s TNGA-F global truck platform, shared with the Tundra, Land Cruiser, and Sequoia. The chassis uses high-strength steel with advanced welding techniques for enhanced rigidity, while aluminum body panels reduce weight. Reinforced frame crossmembers boost durability, and a high-lift jack point is integrated into the rear frame for convenience.
A highlight of the fourth generation is the coil spring multi-link rear suspension, available on most trims, which significantly improves ride comfort and handling both on and off the road.
Suspension tuning is tailored to each grade: TRD Sport features sport-tuned shocks for a responsive drive; TRD Off-Road is equipped with monotube Bilstein® piggyback reservoir shocks for extended wheel travel and heat dissipation, plus an end stop control valve for added damping near full compression.
TRD Pro rides on TRD-tuned FOX® QS3 three-way adjustable shocks with rear piggyback reservoirs and external FOX IFP rear bump stops for superior off-road performance. Trailhunter uses Old Man Emu® forged monotube shocks with rear piggyback reservoirs, optimized for off-road control and load capacity.
Limited trims benefit from Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS), which continuously adjusts damping forces via built-in actuators to deliver a smooth, luxurious ride.
All Tacoma models come standard with front and rear disc brakes for enhanced control and reduced pedal fatigue, plus Electric Power Steering (EPS) for improved steering feel and integration of advanced safety features.
Off-Road Mastery, Elevated
Tacoma’s off-road prowess features the Stabilizer Disconnect Mechanism (SDM) standard on Trailhunter and TRD Pro, and available on TRD Off-Road. SDM boosts suspension articulation at the push of a button and works with Toyota-approved lift kits.
Drivers of TRD Off-Road, TRD Pro, and Trailhunter can utilize the Multi-Terrain Monitor displayed on the available 14-inch touchscreen to spot trail obstacles. Standard underbody protection and front recovery hooks come on all models, with additional rear recovery points and protection on TRD Pro and Trailhunter.
Multi-Terrain Select offers terrain-specific traction control for mud, dirt, and sand in both 4WD-High and 4WD-Low. Next-generation CRAWL Control acts as low-speed off-road cruise control, while an available electronically locking rear differential splits power evenly between rear wheels for maximum traction. Downhill Assist Control helps maintain controlled descents.
Tacoma’s towing capability is impressive, with a maximum capacity of 6,500 lbs. and a payload of up to 1,705 lbs. Advanced towing aids include an available trailer brake controller, digital rearview mirror, and Trailer Back Up Guide with Straight Path Assist, which uses sensors and cameras to keep trailers aligned when reversing. The system also provides a 360-degree simulated top-down view for enhanced visibility.
Wireless Trailer Camera is an available option, delivering a live HD feed of the trailer’s rear on the digital rearview mirror. A manual headlight leveling switch is also introduced for glare reduction during towing or loaded trips.
