Has anyone used 75w90 instead of toyota recommended 75w85 .
I have 07 tundra as well . i have always used 75w90 had no issues .
Just wondering if these new truck would be fine .dont want to void my warranty
Also does gear oil need to have special additive for limited slip diff or just normal fully synthetic gear oil is fine
I think tacoma 4 wheel drive trucks use bake based limted slip diff instead of actually LSD . I might be wrong .

I went bougie and spent the money for 75w85 vs the 75w90, but tbh I don't think it will really matter (may just want to stick with 85 for the warranty period though).

It will be fine with either of those viscosities. I will be putting 85W-140 conventional in mine probably tomorrow. There is no actual LSD on any of these trucks, they are either open diff or locker. Not a single part in either diff actually cares what viscosity you use or whether it's synthetic or conventional.

They're open diffs front and rear, no mechanical LSDs. Auto LSD uses brakes to emulate an LSD.

A real LSD in the rear is a good upgrade for these trucks though. Probably more useful than a locker in most situations.

I just did my front and rear diffs at 50,000 km. I used 75w90 and my truck exploded the next day, don't do it guys.

Just kidding, its been working perfectly. The heavier weight doesn't make a difference whatsoever and its substantially cheaper where I live. It cost more than I thought having to buy 7 litres of it.

That’s what I’m using. There is no way Toyota would void your warranty, much less know your using a slightly heavier fluid.

Got 7 or 8 quarts of AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR® 75W-85 100% Synthetic Gear Lube sitting in the box waiting for me to swap out the diff oil. I'm just under 30K miles on my truck, will change sometime after the 30K mark. I've got no compunctions about using 75W-85.

I put the 85W-140 in and now the truck won’t roll forward…just kidding. All is well.
