Does anyone have a recommendation for an aftermarket retractable bed step? Am considering the OEM version but it is 3x the price of several aftermarket steps I have come across. Is this is buy once, cry once situation or is Toyota marking this way up and the aftermarket versions are perfectly acceptable?.
I got one from Amazon that was Brand name Aceavy, $95, and have no complaints. I've used it several times and I'm glad I bought it.

quick question, can a bed step be installed on a 6th Gen 4Runner 2025? I would like to install one as it helps in cleaning the roof and getting stuff put on the roof rack.

I think that is true, but they should say the problem is the recovery points, because a lot of 4th gens have had them added. And what does that have to do with the trailer hitch?

I never buy stuff online when the details don't make sense, because who knows what else they have wrong?
I really like the red recovery points, but I don't have to worry about them interfering with the step I have installed. They cost nearly $800cdn...plus I'd need to buy the step adapter for probably $200cdn...ain't gonna happen..lol

Timely post! While loading mulch at Lowe's yesterday, I got the comment, "Why isn't there a bed step or something to get into the bed?"

It'll be here Wednesday.
I went with one off of Amazon. I will post an update when I get it installed.

Ok - so i went with an aftermarket step from amazon. I can’t say anything negative about the quality, though I did have a problem with the install. It may well have been user error. I could not get one of the three bolts that attach it to the vehicle to thread properly, kept wanting to cross the thread. I kept fiddling with it, trying to be careful and not strip anything. I played musical bolts, there are three, and eventually found one that would thread properly in the stubborn hole. I also may have had something misaligned, there was a tab. I don’t know for sure if I was hooking into the frame properly. So it may have been 100% or it may have been the truck. It may have been the bolt. I can’t say. Long story, short, too late, I eventually was able to get the bolts installed properly without forcing them. Once installed, I’m satisfied with the result. View attachment 34228 View attachment 34228

I bought an aftermarket step off of eBay from a private seller for around $69.00. It is solid as a rock. Also, the plastic step has the exact same imprinted "design" that matches the OEM rear bumper. I've used it for about six months now and it's solid.
Sorry, I don't know the name of the manufacturer but just wanted to let you know that there are quality alternatives (even on eBay) at a fraction of the cost of OEM.

I've been very happy with it and it seems to tuck up next to the truck a bit closer than the Bed Step I had on my 3rd Gen Taco.

I think I bought the cheapest one on Amazon with good reviews. It's been perfect. It has "good enough" quality, works well, doesn't rattle, and I haven't had the slightest problem.

I will add...I have a 2025 Limited with a duel tipped exhaust. This is close enough to the mounting location that I had some concern it might interfere. So you might want to consider mounting it on the right side or passenger side of the vehicle, Which is what I did.

I think it took about 30 minutes from opening the box until it was installed, best I can remember. It was very straightforward.
